I shot these photos in cities around the world, including Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Seattle, Raleigh/Durham, Istanbul, Venice, Torino, Florence and Sardinia. My eye is attracted to the ways in which shape, color and form unintentionally cohere into interesting compositions. I capture these beautiful accidents, then work with the color inherent in the image to enhance its impact and delight.

My subjects are formed by human intervention, weather, erosion and light, and as a result they are constantly in flux. After the moment I capture the images, these dynamic forces will continue to alter and sometimes eradicate what I'm shooting, a process of ephemerality that is in some ways similar to the moments I capture as a documentary filmmaker.

I was very fortunate to spend five weeks in Oaxaca, one of the most artistically vibrant cities I've ever visited. The buildings are bright and colorful and the walls are covered with murals and wheat-pasted graphics, often with political and social justice messages. I invite you to take a few minutes to browse these photos and lose yourself in the beauty and brilliance of Oaxacan visual culture.
