Join us at the upcoming Gallery Art Night this Saturday, May 20th, 6pm to 9pm, at L34 Group in the heart of Highland Park. The evening will feature Jonathan Skurnik and his Remain Calm series...

Remain Calm is a new series of paintings that draws from the charm and absurdity of Airline Safety Cards to comment on the effects of capitalism and climate change. The paintings are acrylic on wood panel, in sizes ranging from 8" x 8" to 24" x 36”.

Jonathan Skurnik is a filmmaker and visual artist living in Southern California. In the service of his artistic vision, Jonathan uses a wide variety of mediums, including ceramics, painting, print-making, video installation, writing, found objects and mixed media. He has exhibited his visual art and videos in galleries in New York City and Los Angeles.

I was very fortunate to spend five weeks in Oaxaca, one of the most artistically vibrant cities I've ever visited. The buildings are bright and colorful and the walls are covered with murals and wheat-pasted graphics, often with political and social justice messages. I invite you to take a few minutes to browse these photos and lose yourself in the beauty and brilliance of Oaxacan visual culture.
