I’ve always felt that engagement sessions are about more than just the photos. While beautiful photos are always the goal, the real value is in the time spent together before the wedding day and what that does for how your wedding weekend feels.

Rosie and Tom wanted their engagement session to be unique and opted for sailing the California coast. It was perfect weather, we had the best time, laughed till we nearly cried, and bonded over a unique and fun experience. When I showed up to their wedding weekend it truly felt like we were old friends. That’s the beauty of a great engagement session.

Here are some of my favorites. Mix of film and digital. And I have to say that only experienced professionals should attempt walking around on a sailboat with 3 cameras hanging on you.

Rain was in the forecast, but it held off until late evening, leaving us with cloud-filled skies for Colleen and Wade’s Ojai wedding. The design centered around spring tones and was enhanced by the pretty light and vibrant energy of everyone there. These images are a few early favorites that showcase where I directed when helpful and stepped back when it mattered, allowing the day to unfold in a way that felt true and natural. I’ve been so focused on sharing wedding images lately that I thought a reminder that I also photograph families was needed. While weddings are at the forefront of my business, I am really passionate about documenting families with a similar documentary-meets-editorial approach to create images like these that feel warm, fun, true, and refined. They’re as much a documentation of your life as they are art for your walls. As a mother of two, I know the days can feel long but the years are short. Make time to photograph your family as it is right now because they grow too fast.

For many years, I shot only digital, but was always inspired by the look of film. Since 2019, I’ve been slowly incorporating more and more film into my wedding photography. I’m not the photographer who thinks film is more beautiful or more special— I absolutely love what I can do with my digital cameras and, honestly, sometimes people can’t even tell which is which.

Film is simply a different medium with a different vibe and I love that shooting it slows me down a bit and makes me more discerning with each frame. Incorporating film has been yet another way I’ve been able to stay creatively inspired after photographing weddings for so long.

Should you have film for your wedding? I’m a straight-shooter so if you’re asking that question, I’d say probably no? But, I do offer it and love what it can add to a collection of images.

I photographed my first wedding 23 years ago and have had my business officially for 19 years. The thing that has kept me creatively inspired after all this time is a constant drive to grow, change, adapt, learn, and refine.

During my slower months, I tend to focus my creativity on curating my work and refining how I present it in a way that feels more and more like me. I’ve spent the past month or so doing just that on my website. (Thank you for making it so easy.) I updated my logo, incorporated a fresh color palette inspired by tones I find myself loving most in my images, updated content for SEO/AI search, and, of course, added new images and galleries throughout.

It may never be completely “done”, but it feels like the best representation of my work and my approach right now. Swipe to see more about the color story and take a look at the link in my bio!
