An example of one of the camera set-ups on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. This was a scene in Episode 5 of Season 5, Directed by Scott Ellis.

Words from Cinematographer mdmullen1 - “Our AD Chip Signore shot this video of the rehearsal with stand-ins (including Meg Phillips who normally stood in for Rachel Brosnahan).

Dolly Grip Jake Fountain on the dolly with a piece of pipe holding a MoVI Pro.

Key Grip Charlie Sherron also put the desk on some track to allow our dexterous on-set dresser Kara Haas (watching the shot on her iPad) to move it into position.

Camera Operator Jim McConkey on the wheels with Anthony Cappello pulling focus. I used a 15-40mm lens to add a bit more speed to the start of the pullback by burying a short zoom out.

I also used a 144 degree shutter angle to give the motion a subtle sharpening. LED space lights outside for cool skylight and two 1K tungsten Parcans with spot globes for sunlight on the window. Litemat 8 overhead - with Gaffer Jenny Scarlata.”

The new era of POV shots!

Devin Graham getting the shot using this custom Ronin 4D POV helmet.

The Ronin 4D camera has a built in gimbal, allowing it to have smooth motions in whichever way it’s being used.

It also has a mode similar to the Sony Venice’s Rialto mode, where the camera unit can be separate from the camera body.

This allows you to rig the camera in all sorts of different places such as this helmet rig.

And it works great due to its small size and weight!

Camera movement can completely change how a scene feels.

Gimbal, dolly, slider, crane, Steadicam, shoulder rig, each one gives you a different type of movement and a different level of control.

Knowing the gear helps you choose the right tool for the shot instead of forcing one setup to do everything.

Save this for your next shoot and send it to a filmmaker who needs to know these.

Moving a 75 foot Technocrane is no easy task!

But has got it handled!

Technocranes are incredibly powerful tools as aside from being a crane, they also telescope.

Meaning you can change the length of the crane mid shot!

This allows for some really creative shots that aren’t usually possible with conventional cranes.

POV: You’re working as a Camera Assistant on set.

As a Camera Assistant, your job is to keep the Camera Department organized, efficient, and ready for anything.

They build the camera from the ground up, making sure everything is dialed in and reliable.

Pulling focus is only one part of their job.

They manage lenses, filters, batteries, cables, and media with complete attention to detail.

Every shot depends on their ability to adapt quickly and maintain consistency throughout the day.

When technical issues arise, they’re the ones who diagnose, troubleshoot, and get the camera rolling again.

They coordinate with the DP, Operator, and 2nd AC to keep every setup seamless and on schedule

Their awareness, planning, and calm under pressure ensure that production flows without interruption

It’s a role that combines technical mastery, focus, and trust.

The backbone of any great camera team!
