Each of these Petzval-style Helios lenses costs me not only a huge amount of time, but also a significant portion of my nervous system :). If it didn’t produce such beautiful images, there’s no way I’d be able to endure all this suffering

I’ve made another FED-50 lens for SLR cameras with a modified fl**ge distance, mount, and minimum focusing distance. This one is based on an earlier uncoated version with 10 blades

So, to summarize what I changed in this lens to make it usable on SLR cameras.

First of all, the fl**ge distance was increased from 28.8mm to 45.5mm. The mount thread is now M42 instead of M39. The minimum focusing distance has been reduced from 1 meter to 0.5 meters. The optical block is now rigidly fixed inside the focusing helicoid, so there is no need to extend it before shooting.

The lens is already listed for sale. I plan to build one or two more while parts are available, and after that they will be made only upon request.

I think this turned out to be a pretty successful project

This is a FED lens (Industar-10) that I converted from a rangefinder lens into an SLR lens with an M42 mount. While I was at it, I also improved the minimum focusing distance from 1 meter to 0.5 meters. Anyone interested in one like this?

Industar-22 in an Industar-61 focusing mount, modified to reduce the minimum focusing distance to about 0.55 meters. Overall, I think it turned out quite well

I finally finished designing and tuning this very intricate lens. There were several moments when I felt like giving up and throwing the whole project aside. But now I look at the images this lens can create and realize it was all worth it

Wow, this thing turned out absolutely gigantic! I’ve been messing with it for several days and my hands are still sore 🙂.

After those two Helios-44 Petzval-style lenses I built last week, where there was literally no room left for aperture blades, I really wanted to make one with an aperture this time.

So I decided not to mess around and crammed a 13-blade iris in there right away.

Pretty cool, huh? 🙂
