JTVLetsTalkAboutIt: Following the controversy and backlash, social media users have begun vetting founder Chatz, resurfacing several of his old videos.

In this previously posted TikTok video from June, Chatz praised the from the 1992 , claiming they “single-handed defended and saved LA.”

The Rooftop Koreans were Korean store owners and residents who armed themselves on rooftops to defend local businesses from looters and rioters.

Historical records and reporting from the 1992 riots indicate that the armed Korean American store owners on rooftops did not kill any looters, and most accounts note they primarily fired warning shots as a deterrent rather than engaging in direct lethal targeting of individuals.

However, there was a tragic incident of friendly fire during the chaos: an 18-year-old Korean American teenager named Edward Song Lee was mistakenly shot and killed by fellow Korean security/defenders on a rooftop who thought he was a looter or threat.

Many Black online users have called out Chatz for his stances that appear to be geared against the Black community, claiming his praise slights the Black community who were the majority of the participants in the riots who were targeted by violence.

Notably, the 1992 LA riots was an aftermath of an LAPD officer’s acquittal in the brutal beating of in 1991.

Although no Black person was reportedly killed by a Rooftop Korean during the riots — however, one year prior — 13 days after the videotape release of the Rodney King beating, 15-year-old African American Latasha Harlins was fatally shot by a Korean store owner who falsely accused her of shoplifting.

The store owner Du, was formally indicted on a charge of first-degree murder, which carried a maximum sentence of 30 years to life in prison, but the trial jury ultimately found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter.

The sentencing was widely regarded as extremely light and directly contributed to the racial tensions that fueled the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

JTVLetsTalkAboutIt: Los Angeles native and digital creator Julie called out the founder of amid the controversy surrounding his organization’s 5k “street take over” of and .

Following backlash from the Black community, the 5k was moved to Elysian Park, however, tensions are still fresh — with Julie adding how she believes the founder is a Trump supporter.

“I know this man…everything he has doing and is doing is bad,” said Julie.

She ultimately questioned the founder’s alleged ill-intent behind his otherwise understandable concept to improve and uplift the communities of , asking why would he focus on the Crenshaw area when his goal is to simply help South Central.

We’d like to personally point out and educate our viewers, that while the Crenshaw District community is near the areas of West LA, it is still located and considered to be apart of the greater South Central LA.

The Black woman who led protests against over its “Take Over the Streets” promotional video for a 5K in was recently seen writing racially charged remarks on a wall during a verbal altercation with a Latino man inside a venue in the historic village.

According to text on the video, the woman began writing “no Black & Brown solidarity on the wall” after she heard music playing by , a musical group.

“It’s the truth, you don’t like it? Get the f**k out my community. This is Africa Town,” the woman told the man recording after she finished writing her statement.

The video ended with the two hurling derogatory language towards each other but not before she tells him “that’s why y’all don’t belong here.”

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 5k run planned for this weekend at by has been moved to Elysian Park following major backlash from the Black community who believed their event threatened the historical African culture of the landmark neighborhood.

The Southern California running club (Barrio Athletics) that organizes 5Ks in different neighborhoods, announced the Leimert Park event in a promotional video, which promoted a swift response.

In the promotional video, the group said they would be “taking over the streets,” which the Black community understood as their community being taken away from them.

A subsequent video was posted online by a woman who addressed the group telling them not to come into what she called “Africa Town.” Many comments from the video included threats of calling ICE.

The controversy also drew mixed reactions within the Black community. Some agreed, arguing that Black people are often expected to welcome other racial groups despite not always receiving the same acceptance in return. Others maintained that people of all races should be welcomed into the community.

Barrio Athletics is now set to hold its run at Elysian Park at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 6.

but really : Federal authorities arrested , a man pretending to be a player who allegedly defrauded $1.3 million from 26 women in a romance scam, reported ESPN.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the District of Oregon and court documents, the FBI arrested Daejon Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, on Aug. 24 in Boise, Idaho, and charged the duo with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.

Love and Chan reportedly began their scheme in February 2022 with Love meeting multiple women through dating apps. Love created “fictitious personas,” in those dating profiles and on social media, habitually presenting himself as a member of the 49ers or a wealthy real estate investor.

In an effort that spanned over four years, Love would meet the women online with Chan posing as his financial adviser.

Love convinced many of the victims they were in sincere romantic relationships with Love, that he was a sophisticated investor, and that Chan was his investment adviser who helped Love grow a fortune worth tens of millions of dollars,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office statement said. “Love had romantic relationships with many of the victims and told them he wanted to build wealth and a future together. Love advertised nonexistent investment vehicles and claimed these investments would generate massive returns for both him and his victims.”

Love also used apps to create fake bank and investment accounts and balances, which he would show to victims to “legitimize the scheme” said the statement.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Love would block communications with women once they either ran out of money or asked too many questions. None of the interviewed victims said they received any money for their investments, repayments or any account information.

Financial records show Love and Chan received about $1.3 million from the 26 victims the FBI identified, though the Feds believe there are “many more victims.”

The duo were arrested at the Boise airport are in currently in federal custody in Boise.

Aspiring rapper was arrested on and charged in connection with a multimillion-dollar check-cashing scheme on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The rapper, real name Ada William Obayuwana of Quartz Hill, along with two others, were charged in a 25-count federal grand jury indictment alleging that they illegally possessed more than 50 stolen U.S. Treasury checks and hundreds of other checks belonging to individuals and businesses totaling more than $8.1 million. The indictment further states that they then cashed or attempted to cash them at lenders throughout Southern California.

The other two defendants were identified as Albert Tai Vu, of Westminster, and Cassandra Marie Murrillo, of San Diego.

According to the indictment, between April 2022 and December 2023, the three obtained the stolen checks, including tax refunds and veterans’ and Social Security Administration benefits, then forged endorsements or modified names and addresses to steal the money.

The defendants are accused of opening bank accounts to receive the money. They also used business documents to impersonate the identities of the victims connected to the stolen checks and deposited the money into bank and credit union accounts across Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, says the indictment.

AC allegedly tried to cash at least three Treasury tax refund checks worth $382,109 and was successful in cashing one, withdrawing $229,109, alleged federal authorities.

In December 2023, AC “possessed in his car in Oceanside more than 100 stolen or fraudulent checks, cumulatively worth more than $6.1 million,” states the indictment. Among the checks were 48 stolen Treasury checks valued at about $2,555,417 in tax refunds, veterans’ benefits,and Social Security benefits.

Federal investigators say he was able to cash at least eight of them worth about $1.7 million.

AC is currently in federal custody and charged with nine counts of bank fraud and faces three counts of delivering stolen Treasury checks and one count of aggravated identity theft.
