I’ll be on my computer every day for the next month editing. Most people aren’t aware of what we do after shoots. Ever wonder why it takes time to get your photos back? Why it costs hundreads of dollars to do a shoot with an experienced photographer?
If you’ve ever shot with a professional photographer or asked about pricing and thought it was expensive... there are so many reasons we have to charge what we do. But a lot of people aren’t sure why it costs what it does. Here’s a little look into why…
✨We don’t just click a button and hand over the photos. We create the set ups, purchase props, rent studios/locations, purchase all the insanely expensive camera gear and computers, software we need, pay monthly expenses to store/send photos and continue to pay to educate ourselves throughout our entire career.
✨We spend time discussing shoot plans with clients, travel to destinations, then we spend time photographing you…we go home upload all the photos onto our expensive hard drives, organize and cull all the photos (which takes hours at times).
✨Then we edit and retouch every single photo by hand which takes days to weeks depending on how many photos you get. Then we upload all the photos to an online gallery that we pay monthly for to make sure they are sent in a professional looking way.
The entire process takes weeks, yet a lot of us are underpaying ourselves to keep our businesses a float. Just sharing the process to educate on exactly what we do behind the scenes as photographers.
A lot of people think this is an easy career choice when in reality most people don’t see 90% of the work we put into every single shoot we do. Is it a fun career? You bet!
This post is not to complain whatsoever but to educate the public on how much work we really do and why our prices as experienced photographers are higher. I see a lot of comments in local facebook groups where people are complaining about photography prices. I just want to spread awareness on why we price shoots the way we do, since it is largely unknown.
