With fond remembrance, we celebrate two Minnesota legends and heroes of the natural world!

Don Shelby and Jim Brandenburg dedicated their lives to telling stories that informed, inspired, and connected people to the world around them. Shelby, one of America’s most honored broadcast journalists, used his award-winning reporting to elevate public understanding of environmental issues and sustainability. Brandenburg, an internationally acclaimed nature photographer, captured the beauty and vulnerability of the natural world through iconic images that advanced conservation efforts worldwide. He also starred in Medicine of the Wolf. 🐺

Each used the power of storytelling—through words and images—to deepen our appreciation of nature and encourage stewardship of the environment for future generations.

May their example of true stewardship inspire us to pay it forward for generations yet to come. ❤

We are proud to announce the launch of Jim's new website at jimbrandenburg.com Created by Jim's daughter, Heidi, and grandson, Liam, the website features over 1,500 images throughout Jim’s 65 years of photography. It also includes personal photos of Jim’s early life, on assignment with National Geographic Magazine and Television and his latest video work.

The Brandenburg Gallery in Ely will be opening for the season on Wed, May 20th. Hours in May will be Wednesday - Saturdays, 10am - 4pm. Thank you for your patience with us! We hope to have the new website up and live by then.

We are very close to launching our new website featuring over 1,200 of Jim's lifetime of images including the decades with National Geographic Magazine, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, as well as his prairie work.
