One of my favorite things about wrestling is that it brings together people from every stage of life.

The Alabama State Games Individuals and Masters divisions were full of great matches, tough competitors, and moments worth remembering. There was no shortage of heart, determination, and grit throughout the weekend.

Here are a few of the images that caught my eye.

Alabama State Games Duals

A lot of people see the matches. They see the wins, losses, medals, and team scores.

What they don’t always see are the moments in between.

The dads tying shoes.
The coaches in the corner.
The teammates celebrating each other.
The nervous kids waiting for their turn.
The parents living every second of every match.
The friendships built on long days in hot gyms.

That’s what makes wrestling special.

Yesterday wasn’t really about wins and losses.

It was about courage.

A group of moms stepped out of their comfort zones, put on a singlet, walked onto a wrestling mat, and did something most people would never even consider trying.

There were nerves, smiles, exhaustion, hugs, laughter, and a whole lot of support from the wrestling family around them.

The best part wasn’t the scoreboards. It was watching kids cheer for their moms, coaches celebrate with them, and seeing complete strangers become friends through the sport.

Wrestling has a funny way of teaching the same lesson no matter your age:

You’re capable of more than you think.

Proud of every mom who stepped on the mat yesterday.

Now it’s time to find out if you actually know what you’re talking about. 😏

On June 14, the Alabama State Games is hosting a Moms Division, and we’re looking for brave women willing to trade their camp chairs for wrestling shoes.

No wrestling experience? Great.
Not athletic? Also great.

If you’ve survived all-day tournaments fueled by concession stand coffee and pure determination, you’re already tougher than you think.

Many of us never had the chance to wrestle growing up. We learned the sport because our kids fell in love with it. Now it’s our turn to step on the mat and show that wrestling moms belong here too.

This isn’t about winning medals. It’s about having fun, trying something new, supporting each other, and making memories with other moms who have fallen in love with this sport.

Besides, if we’re willing to wake up at 5 a.m. for tournaments, survive weigh-ins, and spend entire weekends in gyms, we can probably handle two 90-second periods.
