The first time I met Elyse's family, it was on Sunday, February 3rd, 2013. It was the day her big brother, Josiah was born. Josiah had Trisomy 18 and he passed on into heaven just 58 minutes after he was born. I feel so blessed to have been able to meet him and capture those precious moments he had with his loved ones. He was gorgeous and it was truly my honor to be in the same room with him. I can't wait to see him again in Heaven someday!
Just 18 months before Josiah was born, his brave Mama was 41 weeks pregnant with his big brother Owen. She went in for an ultrasound and his heart was no longer beating. No explanation...no trauma. The pregnancy had been perfect and they were both healthy up til that day. It was indescribable heartbreak & to say that this family has been through the wringer is an understatement. To lose not just one but two babies...I can't even wrap my mind around that. I don't think any parent can.
Through all the heartbreak, Elyse's parents have shared their story on their blog and in real life to reach others for Jesus. Still giving him the glory for everything despite 2 life-changing events that make absolutely no sense to us here on earth. Their testimony is powerful and I have been so encouraged and challenged by their perspective and faith in the Lord through everything they have gone through. I truly have the utmost respect for them.
Capturing all babies through photography is a precious opportunity, but capturing sweet Elyse...this amazing little redemption baby...was truly a huge honor. I didn't realize when I was photographing Elyse that I had taken the same exact pose 3 years earlier with her brother, Josiah. Their Mama brought it to my attention and I didn't even remember, but I think it was meant to be. In the words of Elyse's Mama...seeing them side-by-side depicts heartbreak and grace.
Much love to you, Marx family.
