This is a Pacific green sea turtle—often referred to as the black turtle (Chelonia mydas agassizii)—gliding effortlessly through the waters of the Galápagos. Adapted to the eastern Pacific, these remarkable turtles are known for their darker coloration compared to the green turtles found in the Atlantic and are a true icon of the Galápagos marine ecosystem.

Moments like these behind the lens are a reminder of the beauty, resilience, and wonder that lie beneath the ocean’s surface. 🌊🐢

Happy Green Turtle Day!

These charismatic turtles are the only vegetarian species, and vital to seagrass ecosystems. This photo captured one of the residents of “Turtle City” a favorite reef in Bonaire home to hundreds of green turtles.

One of my favorite fish to photograph, the spotted scorpionfish is a master of disguise and camouflage. They are ambush predators, and one of the most venemous fish, so tread lightly!

Check out this alien guarding its underwater burrow on a recent night dive. Mantis shrimp are one of the most interesting crustaceans and ferocious hunters found in the ocean. They pack quite a punch!

A yellowhead jawfish standing watch over its territory outside its burrow on the seafloor. One of my favorite things about scuba diving is going slow and finding small hidden gems like this!

Hawksbills get their name from their hawk-like beaks that help them eat sea sponges on the reef.

Zoom in on this juvenile from the Galápagos Islands to see it up close!

Hawksbills are one of my favorite endangered species to observe and photograph.
