This is a Pacific green sea turtle—often referred to as the black turtle (Chelonia mydas agassizii)—gliding effortlessly through the waters of the Galápagos. Adapted to the eastern Pacific, these remarkable turtles are known for their darker coloration compared to the green turtles found in the Atlantic and are a true icon of the Galápagos marine ecosystem.
Moments like these behind the lens are a reminder of the beauty, resilience, and wonder that lie beneath the ocean’s surface. 🌊🐢
