As a photographer, I spend a lot of time telling parents to get in the photos, book the session, and document the stage they’re in right now.
As a mom… I’m just as guilty as everyone else.
Today I put a little blue cap and gown on my daughter and took her kindergarten graduation photos. Somewhere between clicking the shutter and hearing her laugh, I realized I was photographing a moment I’ll never get back.
One day, she’ll stop mispronouncing words.
One day, she’ll outgrow the little habits that make her uniquely her.
One day, she’ll be too big for my lap, too cool for my hugs, and off chasing her own dreams.
And while I am so proud of the little person she’s becoming, part of me will always miss the little girl she is right now.
That’s why I believe so strongly in photography.
Not because of perfect smiles.
Not because of matching outfits.
Not because social media says you should.
Because childhood is constantly changing.
The tiny details we swear we’ll never forget somehow become the very things that fade first.
Photographs let us hold onto those moments just a little longer.
Today I photographed my kindergarten graduate. 💙🎓
Tomorrow she’ll be a little older.
And someday, these photographs will be priceless.
If you’ve been waiting to book the family session, the milestone session, or the “just because” session, this is your sign. The days are long, but the years are heartbreakingly short. ❤️
