I REALLY wished that I had my big camera with me yesterday. The lake was like glass when we got there, and a loon family was hanging out right off the dock. Their chicks are pretty big now.

This is the best I could fix my pic; cropped and some adjustments. The zoom on my phone started pixelating pretty bad beyond this.

I am calling this my Leech Lake Pride Bouquet. These are flowers that I have photographed over the years of working in the woods on the Reservation.

There is a small poster at Leech Lake Division of Resources Management that features "Orchids of Minnesota." It features three orchids, and has others listed in tiny text which makes up a border.
I wanted to make my own poster of orchids found across the Leech Lake Reservation. After combing through my photos from over the years, and finding lists of orchids that are probably on the reservation, my list started to look extensive. I decided to limit my poster to the Moccasin Orchids/Flowers found on the Leech Lake Reservation.
I consulted with some of my naturalist friends, and coworkers to compile my list. We came up with the five featured. The Yellow actually has two variants found on the Reservation; a Large variation, and the small/lesser which I have featured.
I wanted to see if I could find the Ojibwe words associated with each of them. I could only find one for the Showy Lady's Slippers. I added a variation of the Legend of the Lady Slipper. Then I created my own floral, woodland design for the edges.

The bottom two are tiny, and rare. They are my favorites since they are a challenge to find. It is already past their season for this year around here.

Some flowers from yesterday's adventures that I call work. The Large Yellows were near the end of their run for the year. The Small Yellows were in their prime. The Ram's Head were near the end of their run; many had already senesced. The Columbine were near the end of their run. I saw some Showies that will be in bloom soon. I am pretty sure that we passed by some that were beginning to.

After I got some rest after my Milky Way Galactic Core shoot, I disregarded TLC. I visited a handful of waterfalls along the north shore of Lake Superior. I started at Gooseberry Falls, made my way to High Falls near Grand Portage, Mn. Then I made my way south to see a few more.

I went Out Walking After Midnight on Friday night. I've had this Foto trip in mind for a while. I finally got myself out to do it!
This is at the Pebble Beach area adjacent to Split Rock Lighthouse. I hadn't been there before, so I didn't have a good lay of the land to include the lighthouse in any shots. The next morning, I saw that the Lighthouse was wrapped in scaffolding for some maintenance. So I didn't feel so bad. I also learned that I missed an Aurora event earlier in the evening. A residual faint glow can be seen in the first Pic.

I got up at Zero_Dark_Thirty again to go sit in a different blind this morning to watch some different birds. This spot wasn't quite so conducive for photography. It was cool to hear and see what I could of these birds though.
