Geoffroy’s spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi), one of the most agile primates in the Americas.

🚨 They get their name from their long limbs and tail, which make them look “spider-like” when hanging from trees.
They were so fun to watch hanging and swinging from the trees. The young ones played throughout the trees as the elders sat and watched.
🚨 Their prehensile tail works like a fifth hand—strong enough to support their entire body weight.
🚨 Spider monkeys rarely come to the ground—they spend almost their entire lives in the trees.
🚨 Sadly, they are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.
🚨 They can swing (brachiate) through trees at speeds up to 30 mph, making them one of the fastest tree-dwelling primates.
🚨. Mothers have strong bonds with their babies, carrying them for months until they become independent.
