This is not a clever photograph but I was intrigued by this with lots of tiny feathery bits… spotted whilst on the autobahn - I was not driving!

Old and new - the Palace in Victoria with the glass of the building behind . Built in 1910, not many people know that the gold figure on the very top is actually the ballerina Anna Pavlova!

I think the owlets are more independent now and so moving a little further afield... we still managed to see one of them (with a little help from others). Tried the DO 70-300mm this time...

What a brilliant evening watching the solar eclipse in Bushy Park behind the Pheasantry with Colin and Sally (and excellent snacks).

Unlike the lunar eclipse a few years ago, there was no fear of clouds. We all wore our solar sunglasses and these images were taken with my iPhone 14 Pro and a paper solar phone filter!!

The image in the top left was taken at 18.12 and the bottom right at 20.04... I just cropped and upped the contrast. I tried in black and white as well but I prefer the colour!

DON'T PANIC!!!

If you've looked for my website today you may have seen the message below. I am in the process of undertaking a large scale update and overhaul - with more photos to add but only the very best ones to be on display (rather than my faves!) so a big edit is in process. I also have a number of photographic services to offer and so have a lot to tell you.

In the meantime - apart from a break to watch the eclipse this evening - I'm working hard to ensure my site is up and running before the end of the month.

Sooo, I’m really not a wildlife photographer (very limited patience!) but living near Bushy Park has so many great opportunities, especially for owls. Apart from a fleeting sighting one morning a few years ago, this was the first time I’ve seen two of the Little ‘owlets’. Thanks to Nick Brown and for excellent eyesight - I’d never have spotted them otherwise! Clearly not the best images as I was using my Canon 70-200mm and they were safely deep in the trees but just seeing them was a highlight. I’m back again later this afternoon (with solar glasses) and a camping chair to hopefully enjoy the eclipse. No solar filter for my camera but a cardboard one for the phone so maybe I’ll get lucky! More photos from - this time the ultra friendly - including a ringed youngster hanging around by the picnic tables for some unknown reason! The last shot is another youngster about to inspect my rucksack for snacks!

Thank you to Sally for a great day at the . She promised and it did not disappoint, one appeared literally 2 minutes after entering the hide, so quick in fact that I hadn’t actually got my Canon L lens 70-200mm on!!

Note to self for next time: don’t bother with the x2 extender as the image softened; I was using ISO500 to keep the shutter speed up but as the light was good, I should have switched to fully manual and knocked the A/V down to 2.8 instead to reduce noise and increase background bokeh.

Also we agreed we should get a Tescos meal deal next time as good though the cakes were, we should have had a more healthy lunch🤣!! RSPB
