Sandwich and Georgie Boy, you are safe now. If anyone reading this can help with fostering or vet bills, please read further at what Sandwich has to say.
Please welcome Sandwich to our rescue family. She writes: A few days ago my best friend Georgie Boy and I hopped into the rescue wagon, left everything we'd ever known behind and joined rescue.
We were excited.
Over the years, lots of Bulldogs have come through rescue after retiring from their careers as baby mamas. Me? I only had one litter and decided motherhood wasn't really my thing. I was a good mama, but I was definitely one-and-done.
My breeder mom was retiring from breeding Bulldogs, and Georgie Boy and I were the last two to make the journey into rescue.
I'm 2 years old and weigh 43 pounds. I'm a little shy, and right now I'm learning something completely new: walking on a leash.
To be honest, I don't really understand the leash. My foster mama goes one way, and I go the other. Sometimes our walks look more like a tug-of-war than a stroll through the neighborhood. Every now and then I simply decide I've had enough, and my foster mama ends up carrying me home. She just laughs, tells me I'm doing my best and promises that one day I'll figure it out.
Wednesday was a big day. I was spayed and got all of my vaccinations. Unfortunately, things got a little scary.
During my procedure, I got sick and threw up an entire shop towel. Yes, an entire shop towel. Apparently eating towels is not considered a healthy hobby.
The veterinary team moved quickly to make sure I was okay, and while I was pretty scared, they took excellent care of me.
When I got back to my foster home, I didn't want to eat. Everything hurt and I just wanted to rest. By Thursday I was starting to feel a little better, and by Friday I finally ate my first meal.
The vet checked on me every single day. I've never had so many people worried about me before.
What have I learned from all of this?
I love attention.
I love food.
My foster mama is pretty great.
And eating towels is a terrible idea.
Love,
Sandwich ❤️
P.S. My rescue friends asked me to share a couple of things.
First, they really need more foster families in the DFW area. Every time a foster home opens up, another Bulldog gets a chance at a better life. That includes Bulldogs like me and Georgie Boy, but also Bulldogs sitting in shelters waiting and hoping someone will come for them. If you've ever thought about fostering, now would be a great time to learn more.
Second, my rescue friends have something called "vet bills." I don't completely understand them, but apparently when you get spayed, vaccinated, checked over and then decide to throw up an entire shop towel, those things add up.
To help pay for medical care for Bulldogs like me, they're having a June Scentsy Fundraiser. If you'd like to help, you can shop here: furbabyfundraising.scentsy.us/
The Bulldogs, the foster families and even the veterinarians would be very grateful.
