If you're one to make New Year's Resolutions, a good one would be to think about ways to inventory and take back control of your digital footprint. A few places to start:
1) Download a local copy of your photos that may only be stored in the "cloud."
2) Delete old location data that may have been collected from your phone.
3) Make sure your social media, Google, and Apple accounts have legacy contacts set, so that these accounts can be accessed in case you become incapacitated or pass away unexpectedly (it's morbid, but think about it the same way as life insurance.)
Check out this recent New York Times article for a more complete summary of why you should take action on this sooner, rather than later.
Google, Apple and Meta offer near-limitless digital basements in which to store photos, videos and important documents, but you should keep a copy of what you hold most dear.
