Fresh off the TEDx stage, I’m still buzzing with adrenaline after sharing how we can further the conversation on authorship and credibility in visual journalism.
With my camera, I’ve documented humanitarian crises and conflicts, from the streets of Port-au-Prince in Haiti to the front line in Ukraine. However, the moment these photographs go online, their authenticity becomes vulnerable. There’s no signature, no secure way to prove their origin beyond trusting the source.
During my TEDx talk, I delved into the pressing challenge of upholding trust in news images amidst the growing influence of AI technology and the rampant sharing of images taken out of context.
I emphasized the critical need for transparent photojournalism and advocated for a new standard: encrypted, interactive captions that provide instant access to an image’s origin. By knowing who created it, precisely when and where it was taken, and any modifications made, we can create a more trustworthy digital landscape.
One potential solution is The Content Authenticity Initiative, an open-source initiative led by Adobe.
I’m thrilled to share that the video recording of my TEDx talk will be available in a few weeks or months.
A big thanks to the inspiring speakers I had the privilege of listening to and to the whole team! 🙌
