While I was busy admiring the Ruddy Ducks this past Friday, a Great Blue Heron decided to reclaim center stage. It swept past in a low-altitude flyby just over the water—a total showstopper.

A rare moment of calm from the Queen of Mallard Lake. 👑

The Belted Kingfisher has long been my "nemesis" bird, but this female was the calmest I’ve encountered to date. After so many high-speed fly-bys, having her perch long enough for a close-up was a real gift.

Fun Fact: While males are usually the flashier ones in the bird world, Kingfishers flip the script. The female is actually the more colorful of the two, sporting a bright "rusty" red band across her belly that the males lack. She was definitely showing it off today!

A successful outing at Wehr Nature Center last Sunday. While waiting for a shot of a Common Loon who was visiting, I was treated to the return of the Osprey—my first sighting of the spring. I managed to document both its patient perching and its impressive aerial displays, marking my first successful flight shots of the species. The Osprey was a spark bird for me years ago watching them every summer and was a big reason I got into photography and purchased my first super-telephoto lens. They are amazing hunters.

Rare bird alert in Milwaukee! 🚨 Spotted a Pacific Loon at the lakefront today—definitely a long way from home. They are quite rare for the Great Lakes, so seeing one in person was incredible. Also caught an early Caspian Tern performing a perfect flyby! 🦅✨

Here is a video that gives another interesting perspective on the Red-winged Blackbirds calls and how their breath can be seen when backlit. I wasn't able to get lightning to strike twice with the perfect wind direction and backdrop, but I still think this is very cool!

Conditions were just right today and I had the opportunity to capture this awesome shot of a Red-Winged Blackbird’s breath as they called from their perch. It was an image I had been hoping to capture, but conditions have to be just right. It was a great way to start off the day.

An awesome sunset Sunday had an extra surprise.. Look closely, you will notice four large birds all in the same tree. I didn't see ANY them until I went through my photos and had to do a double take, but was really happy I got this shot. Also, this was the second time seeing a Rusty Blackbird today. Sandhill cranes continue to be seen flying through

It was a dark and gloomy day, but I was able to get a Barred Owl for the first time! This was taken at 800mm and the owl was WAY up high in the trees looking down, such a cool sight to see.

Nesting season is right around the corner and this Blue Bird is getting an early start today. Apparently this house just wasn't up to par, but hopefully more possible more "buyers" may find interest in this home.

Sorry for the noisy audio, it got really windy and I left the mic cover in my vehicle.

A spectacular sunrise over Lake Michigan this Sunday morning. A great way to start the day, grateful to have these moments and to be able to capture and share them.
