Atiim Jones

Atiim Jones I take photos of people.

Whether it be a quick portrait, chat or moving conversation about life, it is the trust and authenticity given to me by complete strangers, which has not only made me a better person, but has given me a small glimpse into the Human Condition.

It is with a great sadness that I will no longer be doing any photography for the project. It's been a great ride and have been around the world through the people i've photographed, but I just don't have the passion anymore.

"Father and Son" featuring works by Luther and Atiim Jones .
There are a number of other local artists named in the advert. Well speaking of the Neville Brothers. Thomas is here as well. I was a member of the OMA gallery and displayed art next to the late Luther Jones. I think this took place in 2014.

I remember it was very special. It was a Friday and I worked the gallery every friday and it must have been the day before my birthday, the 4th of July. And I took many photos and mom and brother and...I got it. What year was this?

It's an already low quality screen shot killed by Facebook's compression. Can you read it?

Well thank you for asking. The highlight of my day was when one of the 11 young boys celebrating their friend's birthday in the Old Market Omaha told me to do rap after doing a group shoot. So I did a family friendly (and friendly at that) 30 second freestyle rap and they thought it was really cool.

How about you?

What do I like about the Old Market?

I really enjoy the drive, the ride, the bike. There's something special about the journey, thinking of some of the special people I look forward to seeing each week. Knowing what an enjoyable experience i'm going to have and also not knowing just who I will meet.

Once i've crossed the threshold between pavement and brick, it's a relaxing "exhale". Sometimes I know who's there from from a block away just by the way they play their instrument. It's musical.

I also enjoy talking with other artists, buskers and patrons. It's like a mall with tall walls where everyone gets along. An Urban Utopia of sorts.

If I ever get bored, why I just kneel down and ask one of the bricks: "Hello brick, what's your name?". Every one of those original bricks is innately unique, original, different, forged into an architectural tapestry over time and has a story to tell. Much through manual labor, the brick of the Old Market holds a key to the past when we could all exhale after a hard days work. And enjoy time with co-workers, family and watch the sun go down.

The Old Market has curves and angles and textures and pleasing organic colors. The roads are unadulterated and "broken in", sidewalks a little off "kilter". It can be a challenging environment for a street photographer. Sidewalks tend to lean inward bit, light posts reflect on what it was like to be young. That's just the way it is.
