I had a tip that there was Wild Lupine growing along the Rice Creek North Regional Trail in Shoreview, MN.
Wild Lupine is a host plant for the rare Karner Blue butterfly (Plebejus melissa), but habitat loss has led to a decline of Lupine plants in the wild, and put the Karner Blue on the endangered species list. I am hoping to get to Crex Meadows in Wisconsin soon because these butterflies are known to be there.

One of the features available to me on my new camera is the ability to do a focus-stack in the camera. That lets me set how many shots to take and then changes the focus point for each one, combining them into one photo. This one was 20 shots combined, and I even managed to do it hand-held (which I don't recommend...). These are paperwhites that are blooming at my house right now.

Yesterday I visited an orchid show and enjoyed looking at the wide variety of colors and shapes they come in. This is the third year I have gone to this show and I’m always impressed when I see so many healthy, blooming plants. I purchased a mini cattleya orchid two years ago and still have not gotten it to bloom. It has grown a new leaf and roots this year though, so that is a hopeful sign. I also repotted it and am hoping that does the trick. Persistence pays off, they say…

I can’t help but think of all the ways people are like orchids. Varied. Beautiful. Needing sunlight, water, and fertilizer. Blooming when the time and conditions are right.
So don’t give up on yourself or others. Be persistent. Keep on loving and encouraging each other because growth is still happening even if you can’t see it yet.
