I donā€™t know who needs to hear this but: you are gonna see a lot of highlight reels and photos from this week. Take it for what it is. A highlight reel. Youā€™re not seeing the sacrifices made, the icky hierarchy stuff, and the ways this industry is predatory. (A topic for another time)šŸ˜‡

Because of social media, weeks like this can make people feel like they are ā€œbehindā€ or ā€œnot enoughā€. Those thoughts are only true if you choose to believe them. So donā€™t listen to that.

If ā€œthisā€ is what you wantā€¦ listen to this instead: A career in the arts is a marathon. Itā€™s full of rejection, redirection, and another r word they say in Austin.*

I got serious about standup when I moved to Atlanta in 2021 after 13 years in LA. By that point - I had quit acting, got a photography degree, and was working a lot of freelance jobs to pay the bills. Like, I had a full aura photography business and was running other peopleā€™s social media accounts. Ya girl was hustling. šŸ˜…

Those job/life choices might not look ideal on paper for a career in comedy, but if I hadnā€™t taken all those side quests and trusted my gut - I wouldnā€™t be where I am nowā€¦ and (despite the horrors) I love it here. Iā€™m so grateful that I get to make people laugh for a living while being surrounded by courageous, hilarious, brilliant, and talented people?!?! Dream come true. šŸ„ŗ

So if youā€™re still reading this, donā€™t chase the highlight reel. Stay on your path and keep moving forward. šŸ’™

Iā€™m not where I wanna be yet but I know I have really great people in my corner and weā€™re gonna have fun getting there.
