This past weekend, I had the privilege in covering Gilbert & Betty's wedding in traditional Chinese fashion. They were a well prepared couple, and throughout this whole process in talking to them the past year or so, a friendship has developed with this couple, and I will likely see them again in the future. I guess it also helps that we have mutual friends as well. Gilbert and Betty, I wish you two great fortune as you two move on to the next stages in life.

EQUIPMENT FAILURE #2

What separates a wedding photographer who is well equipped vs one who is not can easily be shown by a recent wedding I covered. Very often, wedding photographers will tell you that they have a backup camera. What about backup lens, backup flash, backup everything else?

I usually carry three flashes, so that if one fails, I still have two flashes to be able to shoot with two cameras. During my most recent wedding, one of my flashes failed, and I lent my assistant my other flash. This left me with one flash between two cameras.

BACKUP PLAN: PocketWizards to the rescue! I mounted my only flash left on a light stand with a PocketWizard receiver, and mounted my two PocketWizard transmitter on my two cameras. Hence, I was able to share one flash between two cameras.

Lucky for me, my last flash did not fail, but if it had done so, I would have been prepared to rely mostly on my Canon 5D Mark II, one of my prime lens that will shoot pretty well wide open, and ISO 3200. =)

EQUIPMENT FAILURE #1

What separates a wedding photographer who is well equipped vs one who is not can easily be shown by a recent wedding I covered. I have about 40 AA batteries that power my flashes, and these batteries were almost 2 years old. During my most recent wedding, I noticed that I was burning through these AAs like there was no tomorrow. Luckily, I kept an 8X AA battery charger in my car just in case, and kept on charging them. If I had not has my battery charger, I would have had no more juice left by the middle of the dinner reception. Time to purchase couple hundred dollars worth of batteries again.

Amaranthine Moments continues to expand! Over the past year we've added a handful of new equipment... more flashes, macro lens added to the mix, and the phaseout of the older Canon 5D and Canon 50D in favor of the newer Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D. It's been great and I hope to continue to work more with wonderful couples.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to cover Erin and Stan's wedding. Erin wanted me to cover the wedding to give a more vintage feel. It's not often I get the opportunity to capture moments in such a unique way, to focus on the earth tones, the greens, the browns, and have it blend into the special moment of a couple saying their vows and begin the next stage of their lives. Erin and Stan, the forecast was rain, but God gave you his blessings and blessed it with a beautiful day. May you have God's blessings for many years to come.

Amaranthine Moments to the rescue! I was contacted by an awesome couple a few weeks ago. They needed a wedding photographer, and they needed someone who can do low light wedding photography without the use of a flash. Equipped with the trusty Canon 5D and a few prime lens, this wedding was a great challenge, and very rewarding.

Tony and Monique, you guys are an awesome couple that have came a long way with a great family to support you two. I wish you the best in the future. you can view their wedding highlights here:

This past weekend, I covered Gavin and Brittany's
wedding. It was my first wedding since getting married myself, so it was a
little interesting getting back into things. It's always nice to know that there
are other people out there who can be in love as much as I am. I give Gavin and
Brittany my best wishes on their marriage and future family.
