The TA Travel Center in Mount Vernon, Missouri, is more than just a place to fuel up—it’s a crossroads where people from every corner of America pass through every single day.

As I watched the steady stream of big rigs coming and going, I couldn’t help but think about the men and women behind the wheel.

Truck driving isn’t just a job. It’s long days, late nights, missed birthdays, missed holidays, and countless hours away from the people they love. Yet they keep showing up because they know what they do matters.

Nearly everything we use—from the food on our tables to the medicine in our cabinets, the clothes we wear, and the materials that build our homes—spent time on a truck.

So today, here’s a sincere thank you to America’s truck drivers. Thank you for the sacrifices you make that most of us never see. Thank you for the professionalism, the dedication, and the miles you put in to keep this country moving.

And while you’re in Mount Vernon, take a moment to check out one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks—the giant directional monument standing proudly at the TA. It’s become a familiar sight for travelers from all over the country and a fun reminder of just how many journeys pass through this small Missouri town.

Standing watch over Lawrence County for more than 125 years.

Tonight’s drone view captures the beautiful Lawrence County Courthouse in the heart of Mount Vernon, Missouri. Built in 1900, this Romanesque Revival limestone courthouse has become one of southwest Missouri’s most recognizable landmarks. Its iconic clock tower, topped by Lady Justice, has overlooked generations of parades, celebrations, and everyday life on the square. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

From above, you can truly appreciate how the courthouse remains the centerpiece of the community—a reminder that history isn’t just preserved in books, but in the buildings and streets we pass every day.

Founded in 1845 and named after George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, Mt. Vernon, Missouri has been a crossroads of southwest Missouri for nearly two centuries. From its historic downtown to its proud agricultural roots, it’s a community built on hard work, heritage, and hometown pride.
