Thunder Over NH Blue Angels 2025 A Stormy September Sunday Afternoon: #5 Solo in the Clouds
I had looked forward to seeing the Blue Angels perform in the New Hampshire skies since I purchased my ticket for the Sunday performance in 2024.I was not able to see the practice flights where the skies were perfect for the full Blue Angel performance. Saturday weather was iffy and the show times were amended to try to get in some of the events. Hearing that the Saturday show was cut short I was hopeful I had picked the better day and would get to see the Blues soar and put on their full show.
On the afternoon of September 7, 2025, thunderstorms had painted the skies above Pease Air National Guard Base with brooding gray tones. Despite the shifting weather, the crowds at Thunder Over New Hampshire clung to their seats and jockeyed for position along the flightline, eyes fixed skyward, hoping the Blue Angels might still perform.
Silver clouds lay low, a heavy blanket less than 4,500 feet above, making the conditions unsuitable for the full “flat show.” Weather reports from the local weather team confirmed the presence of an unsafe cloud ceiling, leading to the cancellation of the complete demonstration. Yet as the afternoon unfolded, a crack in the overcast opened a fleeting window—and with it, the promise of something extraordinary.
The full team of roaring jets proceed down the taxiway and sea of blue and gold, yet only one soared: the #5 Solo pilot. In a rare single-ship sortie, the F/A-18 Super Hornet danced beneath the brooding canopy, offering a sliver of the magic the full formation would have brought.
That single-ship performance was shorter than usual, yet intense—packed with blazing speed passes, a billowing v***r cone streaking across the storm-dark sky. It was a snapshot of precision and power, performed by one pilot against nature’s dramatic backdrop
As the photographer on the ground, my disappointment at the truncated show was tempered by both relief and elation. I trained my lens on that lone jet, anticipating its appearance through the shifting clouds.
What I felt:
Disappointment, knowing the full choreography—Diamond formation, solos, and sweeping maneuvers—would not grace the skies.
Surprise and admiration, watching #5 pilot courageously elevate the solo act, weaving speed and precision under such daunting conditions.
Joy, as I captured vivid frames of the jet’s blue-and-yellow fuselage slicing through darkness, condensation trailing like brushstrokes against a storm-swept canvas.
Some shots captured the jet enveloped in v***r, its silhouette framed by low-hanging clouds—classic Blue Angels drama, distilled into a single, bold moments.
As the sky attempted to clear slowly and the flight window closed, the Blue Angels grounded themselves, heading to the crowd to meet and sign.
Capturing Beauty in the Storm, with my camera—is something more than precision flight: it’s resilience. In the unavoidable constraints imposed by weather, a single pilot’s brilliance shone through. And even in the face of cancellation, the spirit of the Blue Angels—the fearless push, the artistry amid adversity—found a way to reveal itself.
Here’s to those singular moments of beauty—when dark skies and daring flight converge, and the camera becomes both witness and storyteller. While not the show or the images I had hoped to capture I was thankful for the opportunity to be on the flight line and witness the event.

FALCON BATHING
As a photographer, I've always been drawn to the untamed beauty of nature. So, when I heard about a set of cliffs rumored to be home to majestic falcons, I knew I had to see them for myself. Armed with my camera gear and a sense of adventure, I set out on the journey.
The cliffs rose before me, sheer walls of ancient stone reaching towards the sky. The wind whispered secrets as it swept across the landscape, stirring the grass and carrying the distant cries of birds. I felt a surge of excitement as I approached the base of the cliffs, knowing that I was about to witness something extraordinary.
As I scanned the rocky terrain in search of the falcons, my eyes caught sight of a puddle nestled at the base of the cliff. Turning I saw a falcon land on a nearby pole. It sat and preened for a bit before taking flight and instead of heading to the cliffs it swooped down into the puddle. Its feathers were a blur of motion as it bathed in the cool liquid, splashing droplets in all directions. It was a breathtaking sight, one that I knew I had to capture.
Carefully, I lifted my camera to my eyee, adjusting the settings to ensure that I would capture every detail of the magnificent creature before me. With bated breath, I waited, my finger poised over the shutter button, ready to capture the perfect shot.
Time seemed to stand still as I watched the falcon, mesmerized by its grace and beauty. And then, in a fleeting moment, it spread its wings shaking off water before it took flight, soaring effortlessly into the sky. But I had managed to capture several images, freezing water and it in time forever.
As I packed up my gear and prepared to leave, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such a unique sight. And as I made my way back home, I knew that I would carry the memory of that falcon with me always, a reminder of the magic that exists in the world if only we take the time to look for it.

The anticipation bubbled within me. I had been looking forward for this moment – my first time shooting a total solar eclipse, set to grace the skies over Pittsburg, NH, a place not renowned for its clear skies.
As the day drew near, I found myself checking the weather, finding the skies over NH were likely to hold some of the best clarity for viewing. I had obtained the proper solar filters but with little time to practice using them, I couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty gnawing at the edges of my excitement.
The night before the eclipse, sleep eluded me as I tossed and turned. When dawn broke, the sky was clear, a brilliant blue canvas stretching as far as the eye could see. Hope swelled within me as I set up my gear and took some practice shots I watched the masses descend upon Pittsburg.
Pleased with my chosen location, and set up my equipment, my hands shaking with a mixture of nerves and excitement. The moments leading up to totality felt like an eternity. I captured the progression of the eclipse every few minutes, each passing second bringing me closer to the period I most wanted to capture - totality.
And then, as if on cue, the moon completed its slow journey across the face of the sun, casting a shadow that swept across the landscape like a cloak of darkness. I watched in awe as the world around me was bathed in an ethereal twilight, the air humming with anticipation.
I held my breath, my eyes glued to the sky, made a few adjustments to my camera and then, in a breathtaking display of cosmic beauty, the diamond ring appeared, a brilliant burst of light piercing the darkness like a beacon in the night. I captured the moment, clicking furiously as I immortalized the fleeting spectacle. A series of shimmering beads appeared along the edge of the sun, known as Bailey's Beads. Each one seemed to dance and shimmer in the dim light.
As the eclipse drew to a close and the sun emerged once more from behind the moon, I couldn't help but feel a sense of profound gratitude. In that moment, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the wonders of the cosmos, I knew that I had experienced something truly extraordinary.

As the darkness still held sway over Tampa Bay, I arrived, my steps tentative along the unfamiliar path. This was my first time venturing here before dawn, driven by the desire to capture the elusive beauty of the sunrise. With my camera slung over my shoulder and anticipation fluttering in my chest, I scanned the surroundings, seeking a spot where the unfolding spectacle would be met with a compelling foreground.
The bay lay before me, shrouded in shadows, its waters whispering secrets of the night. I wandered across the wet grass and along the edge, guided by the faint glow from the lamp posts, searching for the perfect composition. I asked a passing runner if they had any insight. They suggested a spot along the path. The two of us took off running down the shore line. And then, in the dim light, I spotted it—a cluster of palm trees rising defiantly from the beach, their rugged forms promising a striking contrast to the softness of the approaching dawn.
With a quickening pulse, I hurried to position myself, my camera ready to capture the magic about to unfold. As the first hints of light began to paint the sky in delicate shades of pink, purple, green and gold, I adjusted my settings, framing the trees against the backdrop of the awakening day. Each passing moment brought a new interplay of light and shadow, a symphony of colors dancing across the water.
And then, as the sun emerged from its nocturnal slumber, rising into the sky and casting its golden rays across the bay, I pressed the shutter button, capturing the scene before me with a sense of wonder and awe. In that fleeting moment, I felt a profound connection to the world around me, to the beauty that lay hidden in the darkness waiting to be revealed by the light.
As the day unfolded and the sun climbed higher into the sky, I remained rooted to the spot, my eyes drinking in the beauty of the morning. And as I returned home, eager to review my photographs, I knew that this experience would stay with me forever—a testament to the power of nature and the endless possibilities that awaited with each new dawn.

In the land of fire and ice, where glaciers meet volcanoes and waterfalls cascade like ribbons of silver, I visited Kevernu Foss, a waterfall veiled behind a curtain of mist and secrets. I had heard tales of a mystical place hidden within the heart of Iceland, and my heart was filled with a passion for capturing the raw, untouched beauty of the world.
Driven by my thirst for adventure and the desire to immortalize the unseen, I embarked on a journey to uncover the enigma of Kevernu Foss. Through rugged terrain and biting winds, I pressed on, my pack of camera equipment strapped on my back like a loyal companion. As I ventured further up the trail, with each obstacle I overcame, my spirit burned brighter with determination.
Climbing further up to the hidden gem I sought behind the veil of the Kevernu Foss waterfall, without hesitation, I plunged into the cavern beyond, my heart pounding with anticipation to see the breathtaking cascade of water plummeting into a pool of crystal-clear waters.
Inside, the air was thick with mist, and the sound of rushing water echoed off the walls like a symphony of nature's melody. Through the haze, I glimpsed a sight that took my breath away – a shaft of light illuminating a majestic scene of craggy black rocks and emerald green grasses fed by the mist and falling waters.
At that moment, I raised my camera, capturing the ethereal beauty of Kevernu Foss from a perspective few had ever witnessed. The image immortalized the convergence of elements – water, light, and stone and greenery – in a dance of timeless wonder.
With my mission accomplished and my soul enriched by the journey, I emerged from the cave, my spirit soaring with triumph. And as I journeyed onward, the memory of Kevernu Foss burned brightly in my mind, a testament to the power of courage, curiosity, and the unyielding spirit of adventure.

In the mystical land of Iceland, where nature weaves its tapestry with wild abandon, there stands a formidable peak known as Mt. Vesterhorn. Its rugged silhouette towers over the surrounding landscape, a silent guardian of the untamed beauty that lay at its feet.
I had journeyed to capture the essence of Iceland's raw majesty through my lens. As I stood upon the black sand beach, with the ocean's frothy waves crashing against the shore, gazing in awe at the imposing figure of Mt. Vesterhorn silhouetted against the stormy sky, I composed my shot and adjusted my settings to capture the movement of the ocean as the receding water painted the shoreline.
The wind whipped through my hair, carrying with it the salty tang of the sea and the promise of adventure. With my camera perched on my tripod and a heart full of anticipation, I set out to immortalize the rugged beauty of Mt. Vesterhorn and the beach in all its glory

The storm intensified, casting the landscape in an eerie, otherworldly light. Yet, I pressed on, driven by an insatiable thirst to capture the essence of the moment – the interplay of light and shadow, the raw power of nature, and the timeless beauty of the land.
With each click of my camera shutter, I felt a deep sense of connection to the land and the elements that shaped it. The black sand beneath my feet seemed to pulse with a primal energy, echoing the heartbeat of the earth itself.
As the storm raged on, and with each photograph I took, I felt a profound sense of gratitude – for the opportunity to witness such untamed beauty, for the privilege of sharing it with the world through my art.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the storm clouds continued to darken the sky, I knew that my journey was far from over. For a while I had captured the essence of Mt. Vesterhorn in that fleeting moment, its true beauty lay not just in its rugged peaks and stormy skies, but in the timeless spirit of adventure that called to me to the swim in the frothy waters of the Atlantic.
