Over the weekend, three 4Hers representing Surry County, competed in the South Central District NC 4H horse show. Josie Baldwin, Emarie Lowe, and Dorian Smith all worked hard over the weekend to care for their horses, while also studying their patterns for competition. Josie Baldwin of Mount Airy NC, showed her horse Testa Rosa Doc, in Sr Ranch and Long Stirrup. Emarie Lowe of Lowgap showed her horse Mighty Misty competing in Junior Ranch and Short Stirrup. Dorian Smith of Lowgap, showed his horse Regulus Black in Rookie Ranch. They all competed in Showmanship, Horsemanship and trail. Emarie and Josie competed in the Hunt Seat Division and reining. They all qualified in their division to go show at the NC State 4H show.

The Ginger Horse Farm youth team has a question. They are trying to get as many experiences as possible. We already have booked a trip to NC State Vet School Open House and New River Gypsy Vanner Farm. Do you have any ideas for these students that involves large animal rescue, a Horse Farm that does a specific discipline, et al?

This team put a goal together and achieved it.

They completed a community service task picking up trash on the New River Trail. The 2026 team has a bigger goal this year, They want to volunteer at a large animal rescue.

One of their goals in 2025 was to learn how to work as a team. They showed these skills throughout the year and especially at their end of year show. Their big goal was to get belt buckles with their name and officer title. We all are so fortunate to have people who believe in this program to support their dreams.
Due to gracious sponsors, The team was able to receive the most beautiful buckles. Thank you!
