🚨 EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY — CHANGE TO MY PHOTOGRAPHY 🚨 PLEASE READ
This is something I have thought about deeply, especially as a mom myself.
Moving forward, I will no longer be posting identifiable photos of children’s faces on my photography page — Signed release or no release.
As a lifestyle photographer, photographing families, babies, and children is a huge part of what I do. I absolutely love capturing these seasons of life, and I know how special it is to be trusted with someone’s most precious memories. Because of that, this decision was not one I made lightly.
Recent developments surrounding AI-generated child sexual abuse material have honestly made me stop and think about how easily children’s images can be taken from the internet and potentially manipulated in ways their parents never intended. Regardless of what current laws do or do not protect, I don’t feel comfortable taking that risk with a child’s image.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals just ruled that privately possessing AI-generated CSAM depicting “fictional” children can be constitutionally protected when it stays within the home. So, we should probably talk about the recent federal court ruling involving AI-generated child sexual abuse material.. The court ruled that the federal government cannot criminalize the private, in-home possession of obscene AI-generated CSAM under the statute at issue
so anyone can go and use any picture of a child’s face or body and make child sexual abuse material and it is completely LEGAL.
I may not be able to control what someone else does with an image once it is online, but I can control what I choose to put on my own page.
Will this affect my business? Maybe. But honestly, that’s a risk I’m willing to take.
My clients trust me with their babies, their children, and some of the most important memories of their lives. That trust means more to me than having a perfect portfolio or getting another like on a photo.
I’m a mom, and when I look at these images, I don’t just see a client’s child — I see someone’s whole world. I would want someone to make the same decision for my child that I am making for theirs.
I would rather look back years from now and know that I did everything I could to protect the privacy and safety of the children I have been trusted to photograph.
So, from this point forward, I will be removing identifiable photos of children and babies from my page. I will still continue to photograph and cherish these moments for my clients, but I will be much more intentional about what images I share publicly. 🤍
Please be patient with me as I work through my existing posts and website. This will take some time, but I will be going through them and making the necessary changes.
