If you're out at the Iowa State Fair (Aug 9-19) check out the photography on display in the Cultural Building. I have 2 photos on display this year!

A total of 3,201 photographs were entered into the competition this year and 859 (27%) of these were selected for display. Of the 1,018 photographers who entered the competition this year, 621 (61%) have at least one photograph on display.

What a day! Drove out to the middle of Nebraska to clear skies for viewing the total solar eclipse. The totality lasted about 2.5 minutes for us and we were busy trying to capture it both by eye and camera. So cool to see a 360 degree sunrise/sunset and the stars in the middle of the day! I hope many of you were lucky enough to see it today!

Results are in! If you're out at the Iowa State Fair (Aug 10-20) check out the photography on display in the Cultural Building. I have 3 photos on display including a 2nd place award for my Bow Lake photo.

A total of 3,446 photographs were entered into the competition this year and 790 (23%) of these were selected for display. Of the 1,064 photographers who entered the competition this year, 518 (49%) have at least one photograph on display. Some really nice photos this year!

Well, here they are! My 2017 Iowa State Fair Photography Contest entries! Good luck to everyone that is entering this year! :-)

Pics are from Bow Lake in Banff National Park, Cedar Grist Mill in Washington, flowers at a botanical center near Seattle, WA and finally some pretty cool looking bristle cone pines at Bryce Canyon National Park.

Our last big hike of our Pacific Northwest trip this past summer was the Cooper Spur Trail on Mt Hood. Definitely one of the best hikes on our trip with great views of Elliot Glacier and Mt Hood. Hard to believe this thing is a volcano.

An hour or so before we took this shot we were at Lost Lake completely under cloud cover. We should have come to this spot for sunrise instead! Beautiful skies and a great view of Mt Hood in Oregon.

Ponytail Falls in the Columbia River Gorge was one of our favorites. The trail goes behind the falls into a shelter cave. Pretty cool!
