I made it to the Met......

In Sunday's Boston Globe Arts section (below) is a photograph of a guitar that I designed the script headstock logo for back in 1980 for B.C. Rich Guitars of Los Angeles, CA. The image of the magenta BCR Warlock guitar is from the exhibition: "Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll" at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art through Oct 1st, 2019.

I'm also working with Graphic Designer-Author Matt Touchard on his book "The Vintage Years and Legacy of B.C. Rich" which will chronicle the history of the company from it's earliest origins to the mid 1980's.
I did the creative photography and advertising design for BCR from 1978-1985.

So I made it to the Met not with one of my photographs but with the graphics on a guitar. I'll take it!

My good friend rock photographer Ethan Russell has launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a new monograph featuring his career photographing the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Who among many other recording artists. Ethan’s Kickstarter is doing well in it’s first 2 weeks but needs a final push to fully fund the project. Please send this link to anyone you know who is interested in rock photography.

Ethan photographed such iconic album covers such as the Beatles “Let It Be”, The Who’s “Quadrophenia” and “Who’s Next”. I began working with Ethan as a LA photo assistant in the late 1970’s on album covers and music videos, in subsequent years on his seminal book on the Rolling Stones 1969 & 1972 tours “Let it Bleed” and up through helping him stage his one man show “Best Seat In The House” on US and Canadian speaking tours.
If Ethan’s name is not as familiar to you as the photographs I’ve mentioned check out all of his photography at:

Let’s get him fully funded!
Thank you,
Andy

50 years ago my friend rock photographer Ethan Russell was perched on a roof top in London photographing the Beatles final live performance. Just one of many incredible life experiences by the only person that photographed the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who and many others for album covers. Check out Ethan's web site and twitter feed for more amazing photographs that you're sure to remember but may not have known were all taken by the same person......... Ethan Russell.

A resident of Roxbury for 25 years, Lennon was born in Ireland but came to the United States “as a young man [and] attended the public schools of Boston,” the Globe reported. He’d worked for the Highway Division of the Public Works Department for 25 years and was widely known throughout the city.

A member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, he was survived by four daughters and four sons.
His daughter Mary known as May was my grandmother and she passed 2 years later due to complications in childbirth of her son Thomas, my father.

“The sight that greeted the first of the rescuers on the scene is almost indescribable in words.”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Philip Johnson’s The Glass House opening as NTHP site. It will be held on Saturday June 10 in New Canaan CT. It’s a great place for a summer party! This is a favorite personal photograph of mine from a past visit.

Spring as arrived in Boston despite the 30 degree temperatures today. The 2017 Boston Flower and Garden show is in full bloom at the Seaport World Trade Center until March 26th. Many great landscapes designs are on display of which this artistic sculpture fountain by Rock Art Studios of Westford, MA caught my eye, a beautiful solution to the idea of a simple but elegant water garden that I kept coming back to during my visit yesterday.

Ancestry.com says my DNA is 67% from Ireland, 23% Great Britain and 10% Europe West. No surprise to me, I had red hair and freckles as a kid.
All I know is I'm 100% passionate about my photography.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Memories of LA LA LAND

Inspired by a screening of Damien Chazelle’s love letter to Los Angeles, the film “La La Land”, I went back into my image archives to find these photographs of the city of Los Angles, where I lived for 22 years, and where I met many talented, creative people that I had the good fortune to work and play with.
See the movie and enjoy the music!

Well the 2016 Summer Olympics opening ceremony is Friday night and hopefully that comes off better than the other preparations for the games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I photographed this portrait of my son Alex at the site of tomorrows ceremonies, Maracana Stadium, back in January when our family visited Rio and saw many of the other Olympic venues still under construction.
