A New Essential Tremor Drug Moves One Step Closer to FDA Approval

For years, people living with Essential Tremor have had relatively few treatment options. Most medications prescribed today were not originally developed for Essential Tremor, and many patients either do not respond to them or eventually stop taking them because of side effects....

For decades, families affected by Huntington’s disease have hoped for a treatment that could slow the disease itself—not just manage symptoms.
That hope may be one step closer to reality.
The FDA has indicated that existing clinical trial data for AMT-130, an experimental gene therapy developed by uniQure, may be sufficient to support an accelerated approval application. The therapy is designed to reduce levels of the mutant huntingtin protein believed to drive the disease.
While AMT-130 has not been approved, the news represents one of the most promising Huntington’s disease developments in years and could mark an important milestone in the search for disease-modifying treatments.

My Special Report: Diabetes is often discussed as a health issue, but its impact extends far beyond doctors' offices and hospitals.
A recent study estimates that diabetes could reduce global economic output by more than INT$5.1 trillion between 2021 and 2050 through lost productivity, disability, premature death, and healthcare costs. Researchers found that much of the economic burden comes not from death, but from the long-term complications that can affect a person's ability to work and remain independent.
The findings build on a 2017 study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, which estimated that diabetes cost the global economy approximately $1.31 trillion in 2015, equal to about 1.8% of global GDP.
As diabetes rates continue to rise worldwide, studies like these remind us that prevention, early detection, education, and access to effective treatment are not just healthcare priorities—they are economic priorities as well.

For Parkinson’s Patients, Every Clinical Trial Is a Reason to Hope and a Risk of Heartbreak

The Brutal Math of Parkinson's Clinical Trials Researchers work hard every hour of every day, somewhere to design and test new treatments for Parkinson's disease.

Every Parkinson’s clinical trial begins with hope.
For patients and families, research studies represent the possibility of better treatments, slower disease progression, and one day, a cure. But clinical trials also come with uncertainty. Many promising therapies never make it through the research process, despite years of work and the dedication of volunteers who choose to participate. Clinical trials remain one of the most important ways researchers learn what works, what doesn’t, and where the next breakthrough may come from.
