So just how would you and I meet your stated goal to, "Improve" on the problems and dysfunction in our City without allowing public discourse about "negative" items such as... these "negative problems" you and I claim we'd like to "improve?"
How would Elon Musk fare if his new phobia of open spaces, let's say, made him limit all employee social chatter, flight research/development efforts to Earth based topics no higher than 6 feet above sea-level? Putting safety first by censorship destroys all public dialogue's Useless. We all know the police spoke to you, admin about posts that covered problems posed by them. We no longer see this entire public dialogue on our local policing issues because it's gone. Our opinions brought cops to and made you feel the safest move would be to delete the thread. We are quick to forgive. You're making statements about further censorship that trouble most of us here. Progress runs on critical discussion while safety revels in total silence. Place your personal, social safety far lower on the scale of priorities as you move forward as our admin please.
If the iconic Rosa Parks sat at the back of the bus and focused all efforts on complimenting and celebrating the positive, silver linings outlining a grossly unethical social climate for Blacks in the 1950's Southern US States, she'd be 100% Safe. And lifelong racist whites in charge would have...
A: Respected her and repealed Jim Crow laws on their own.
B: They'd have had no Idea who she was, or any respect for her, but they would have come around and repealed racist Jim Crow laws and changed their community for the better.
C: They'd have no idea who she was and would have no respect for her. White leaders would have left "darkies" riding in the backs of public buses and let them continue to drink from only Jim Crow water fountains.
Until what? Until essentially a public leader of social dialogue, like a modern "Group Admin" came along who had the insight and courage to accept the minor risk in placing positive social changes before this leader's desire for total personal safety.
My mother is a well known American athlete who is, arguably, the most celebrated American pioneer in women's athletics. Before her historic act of defiance, women were considered too weak and were not allowed to compete in long races or even full court basketball. She is mentioned here for also having put social change before her personal safety, as our admin should as well.
In the early 1960's she's the one who definitely broke all the official and sexist athletic rules and brought the era's disturbingly sexist athletic policies flaming aground. into figurative piles of tattered ashes. To have Dr. Julia Chase as my Mom is very cool and I could not be more proud that her blood is also mine.. Before and after I came around, she always valued criticism, and acts of defiance over her personal safety. This is a pattern in most of the game changers we remember for generations. Yes? It would be the mark of a good admin for New London Strong, yes?
By making this historic power move of placing progress before personal safety she started critical conversations with the coverage she received when she made international headlines. And the discussions were the exact type New London Strong's Admin has called unwelcome or unfitting for all of us as members. I will leave the group if I ever witness the cowardice that drives this admin to remove, delete or censor a single negative opinion or experience about our city.
You should be furious at what his post on deleting negative posts means for us and on the larger scales as well. This was actually the single worst showing of our admin's leadership skills any of us in the group have seen since an entire anti-police abuse thread was deleted by him at the request of a named NLPD officer in fact. And that can be scary to have police criticize your page content. But a public dialogue that posts words about improving citywide, runs headlong into a wall the moment that its group Admin plans to censor any discussion of the problems we all need to fix as a Strong group. Yes? Talk to me about this by reply.
Positive or negative comments are welcome on this page again because history, social progress, quality of life and logic demand it be so. Another time I'd love to tell you guys about some of my other ancestors who founded our country. For now, the good, the bad and everything in between is welcome at New London Strong.
