Objects in mirror are closer than they appear:

I was pulling out of the parking lot at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility this morning after photographing the rollout of the Artemis III core stage—and there it was, filling my rearview mirror. How often can you say you’ve seen something like that behind you while driving?

Towering over 200 feet tall, the massive rocket stage was on its way to a barge, beginning its journey to the Kennedy Space Center for its next mission into space.

If you’re going to New Orleans, be sure to wear some jasmine flowers in your hair. Full nod and wink to Scott McKenzie and the his song, “San Francisco.” I ran into Darian Aries yesterday while photographing the French Quarter Fest. We were both drawn to the fragrant flowers blooming on an FQ wall. She even put a few flowers in her hair on her way to hear some music.

Archbishop James Checchio, center, began his first official day as the sole archbishop of New Orleans on Wednesday, February 11, no longer serving as coadjutor to Archbishop Gregory Aymond. To mark the occasion, he visited the tomb of Henrietta Delille at St. Louis Cemetery No. 2, where the Sisters of the Holy Family gathered in prayer and extended their hands for his blessing. Checchio also visited the tomb of Blessed Seelos.

Twenty years ago when I was out photographing Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, I randomly stumbled upon this tattered page of music — ‘New Orleans, Man! What a Town!’ poking through the mud in the middle of a flooded street. To me, it symbolized the city itself: battered but unbroken, its rhythm rising from the debris, refusing to be erased. All these years later the mud is still caked on it.

Sidney Smith, a legendary figure in New Orleans music photography, is pictured looking into a mirror in his bedroom, surrounded by some of the images that defined his career. For decades, Smith’s lens captured the electricity of the city’s gritty Warehouse music venue and the larger-than-life presence of artists like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, and the Allman Brothers. Now facing a terminal illness, Smith’s work has taken on new weight — a visual record of rock and roll’s golden age, preserved by the man who stood in the shadows to tell its story.

Pic 2- A photo by Sidney from the first rock concert ever to be held in the newly-opened Superdome. It featured the Allman Brothers and Cher.

Pic 3- Paul and Linda McCartney singing in a small bar with bassist George Porter Jr.

Pic 4- Zoom in to see a photo of a very young ZZ Top(without beards), Bruce Springsteen standing on top of a piano, Keith Richards, and more.

Pic 5- Sidney among more photos in his hallway, above him is likely his most cherished image, the one that hangs above all the others. It’s features him and his son, Justin, who died in 2023.

A crew of Gulf Coast fishermen haul in nets filled with menhaden, a small but vital fish that fuels Louisiana’s long-running commercial industry. Off the south Louisiana coast, the practice remains a staple of local livelihoods, linking generations of fishermen to the waters they’ve worked for decades.

Le Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans is bringing classrooms back to the heart of the French Quarter, marking the first time a school has returned to the historic neighborhood since Homer A. Plessy Community School moved out in 2022–23. The move revives a centuries-old tradition of education in the Quarter, blending the neighborhood’s cultural legacy with the future of French immersion learning.
