Common Evening Primrose 🌿 Native to Central and Eastern North America, it is an excellent pollinator, has historically been used medicinally, and most of the plant parts are edible. I also happen to think the little yellow flowers it produces are real pretty too.

There’s still something kinda magical about dandelions or, more specifically, their seed heads. Beautiful and fragile. I watched it dance in the wind and thought about saving the seed or spraying the pod to bring indoors as I photographed it. And then I absentmindedly stepped on it while I tended to other garden chores so the decision of what to do (or not do in this case) was made for me.

The beauty of nature is always fleeting but, if you’re lucky, there’ll be more.

Ever wonder where your dill is going because one minute it’s there and the next it’s nibbled down to the nub? The black swallowtail caterpillar might be your culprit.

I never mind as I plant some for me and some for them ~ dill is an excellent pollinator and caterpillar host plant.

Even when the sun doesn’t shine, the sunflowers do 🌻 Today, under cloud-covered skies, the plants and I are waiting on the rain. We need it.

I’m off to a slow start but tomato season has finally begun. I wish I had more space to grow more varieties but for those of us that have limited space, I’m partial to the currant vine varieties like Everglades and Matt’s Wild.

There are a lot of challenges to growing tomatoes in the south 9b, among them disease drought and the aggressive leaf footers and stink bugs, so imo the small varieties have a better chance of ripening on the vine and actually making its way to my plate. They also happen to be indeterminate so they’ll keep producing long after others succumb to Louisiana conditions.
