I grew up in the Bronx during the 1970s, a time when open spaces and empty lots were abundant playgrounds for curious kids. I still remember walking my German Shepherd, Bruno, through Seton Falls Park and the nearby woods. Somewhere along the way, life pulled me in other directions, and for 40 years, I lost that connection with nature. Today, I’ve found my way back—hiking through forests, explorin

g new trails, and rediscovering the same sense of wonder I felt as a kid. It becomes just you, the quiet of the woods, and the challenge of reaching that next peak. Photography has been a similar journey for me. I was given a Pentax ME-Super for my birthday one year, and it sparked a deep interest in capturing the world through a lens. I dove into learning how light, shutter speed, aperture, and depth of field worked together to tell a story. The tools have changed, but the fundamentals—and the thrill of the craft—remain the same. Now, whether I’m hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, or skiing (both downhill and cross-country), I always bring my camera along. Each adventure opens a new window into the natural world—one I’m grateful to witness and share through my photography. It took 40 years to return to what I’ve always loved. And I’m so glad I did.

Sometimes the smallest moments become the most memorable.

During a recent Orange County Audubon Society outing at Knapp's View in Chester, NY, I had the chance to spend a few moments watching this beautiful **Halloween Pennant** dragonfly. Their brilliant orange wings seem perfectly suited for autumn, even though they're a welcome sight throughout the summer.

It's moments like these that remind me that nature rewards those who slow down and pay attention. While many people join Audubon walks for the birds, there's always so much more to discover along the way.

Have you ever noticed a Halloween Pennant resting nearby? They're every bit as fascinating as they are beautiful.

Sometimes life doesn't turn out the way we planned.

The first image was one of those moments. My camera missed focus, and at first I thought I'd lost the shot. Before I could react, this hummingbird hovered again just a few seconds later, and the second image came out exactly as I had hoped.

When I got home, though, I couldn't stop looking at that first frame. With a little creative editing, what seemed like a mistake became something completely different—a soft, painterly moment that I ended up loving for its own reasons.

It reminded me that not every missed opportunity is really a loss. Sometimes what feels like a disappointment in the moment simply leads us to appreciate something we never expected.

Life has a way of doing that.

Swipe to see how just a few seconds can change everything.

For years I've photographed the moon setting behind Mohonk Mountain House's iconic Skytop Tower, but this month brought something new.

The June Strawberry Moon rose perfectly behind the tower, marking the first time I've been able to capture this alignment. Watching that glowing orange moon slowly emerge above the ridge was a moment well worth the planning, patience, and early arrival.

A special thank you to Harvey and Jaynie for providing access and making this photograph possible. Your kindness helped turn this long-awaited image into a reality.

A wonderful evening in the field with the Orange County Audubon Society . Beautiful evening light, and plenty of birds to photograph made for a nice outing. Here are a few highlights from the evening, including some Eastern Bluebirds that seemed more than willing to pose for the camera—one even had its own reserved parking spot! 🐦📷

While visiting Barnegat Lighthouse State Park in New Jersey, I had the opportunity to photograph this Least Tern as it hovered above the water, locked onto its target, and plunged in pursuit of a meal.

The first slide shows the action in real time, while the remaining images break the sequence down frame by frame, revealing the speed, precision, and agility of these remarkable little seabirds.
