ARTSWRKER SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
Jasmine Kromah is a dancer and choreographer born and raised in Charlotte, NC. Since the age of three, her favorite part of dance has been storytelling and connecting with others through movement. Her training includes nine years of competitive dance at the state and national level, followed by continued modern training at the collegiate level. Jasmine has an extensive background in ballet, jazz, tap, acro, modern, contemporary, musical theatre, street jazz, heels, and hip hop.
As an educator, Jasmine is passionate about creating spaces where dancers feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. She believes confidence is built when dancers are given the freedom to take risks, explore artistry, and discover the story within their movement. Through her teaching, she aims to nurture not only strong performers, but also a sense of community where dancers uplift and inspire one another.
✨ Here’s what Jasmine had to say about shattering the “starving artist” stigma:
“I’ll be honest, there have been times where I’ve believed the “starving artist” narrative too. Like many artists, I’ve had moments where I wondered if pursuing creativity seriously meant constantly choosing instability or feeling discouraged about what was possible.
But the more I’ve continued working as a dancer and educator, the more I’ve seen how powerful art actually is in people’s lives. Art isn’t just entertainment, it builds confidence, connection, and community. When artists are supported and able to sustain themselves through their work, they have the freedom to create spaces that truly impact others. They create spaces where other people feel seen, encouraged, and inspired.
I’ve seen that happen in classrooms, workshops, and studios. When we’re able to thrive instead of just surviving, we can pour more energy into our own artistry, mentoring, building community, and uplifting the next generation.”
