12-5-2026 We went out this afternoon and set up in one of our hides along the river. This particular hide does not give you a wide window for viewing due to the canopy and gets worse as the trees keep leafing out. We heard eagle chatter and when looking at the nest we caught this adult leaving and both eagles in the nest were squawking. We then noticed a eagle flying in above us through the canopy. It buzzed the nest and made a few loops before being escorted out and downriver. When we first saw the wing gap out in the field we got excited thinking it may have been the original male. The gap is on the wrong wing and the coloration of this eagle looks to be 4.5 to 5.5 years old (our guess). We wanted to record some sound but being absent minded we did not check the batteries in our external recorder and we all know what that means...lol. This encounter would have been good to record with all the vocalizations. Oh well, gives us more reason to keep visiting.

A routine territorial dispute turned into a once in a lifetime photo op when a crow decided to hitch a ride on a bald eagle.
While photographing bald eagles hunting for breakfast in Seabeck, Washington, photographer Phoo Chan captured a sequence of images that looked almost too bizarre to be real. Crows are well known for aggressively harassing larger raptors that enter their territory, a behavior called mobbing, but this particular crow took things a step further by landing directly on the eagle's back. Instead of reacting with aggression, the bald eagle simply ignored the passenger and continued its flight as if nothing had happened. Experts believe the eagle was so focused on its hunt that it did not find the tiny hitchhiker worth the energy of a fight, resulting in a rare moment of avian cooperation that lasted only a few seconds.
