This October 9-11th I will be co-facilitating a workshop with Justine Kurland in Kingston, NY with CPW.

What can I possibly say about the brilliant and incredible human that is Justine. To work with her is to be in the presence of one of the most generous artists I have ever met. Her deep knowledge of the history of photography and artistic practices offers to her students a lens to more deeply understand their own practice. As one colleague stated “She sees things in my work I didn’t even know were there”. Personally, I have freed my artistic practice in ways I didn’t know were possible, all through her guidance and wisdom. I love this woman and anyone thinking about joining our workshop will not regret spending time in her essence. She’s a gift!
We will be leading this three-day workshop where artists will collectively photograph one another in outdoor spaces, putting theory into practice and demonstrating photography’s inherent collaborative, relational, and performative underpinnings. The concept is inspired by Ovular– feminist empowerment workshops held in the early 80’s where photography was used as a tool of self representation and self-possession. During this immersive sun up ‘til sun down workshop, participants will be prompted to stage photographs and to be photographed while photographing. All individual work made during the workshop will belong to the collective as a whole.
