I almost missed what was happening behind me.

I was photographing family portraits when I turned around and saw the bride, groom, and best man climbing the rock wall.

They’re just hardcore climbers—dress shoes, wedding clothes and all. Apparently, the wall was bumpy enough to climb.

My street photography has taught me to stay alert and react quickly. Often, the best photographs are the ones you never planned to take.

It rained while they were getting ready and during the wedding ceremony, but after the ceremony we got a little break and headed down to the dock at Brittland Manor.

The sun never came out, but there were little spots of lighter sky breaking through the dark clouds. Then the string lights started to glow, the lamps by the gate came on, and the whole place slowly changed its mood.

I always enjoy photographing portraits this way. To me, it’s a lot like street photography—walking around, observing, and finding those unexpected moments that naturally appear.

You can plan so much of a wedding day, but you can’t always plan the light, the atmosphere, or those little surprises that make a photograph feel special.

Thank you both for trusting me and being up for this little adventure. Those unexpected moments are often the ones I enjoy capturing the most.
