Fernando Espinosa’s work covers very diverse subjects, from fashion models to drag queens, from the harsh landscapes and wildlife of the Galapagos to the architecture of New York City. Espinosa’s imagery is characterised by his exceptional and innovative use of lighting techniques which re ect his unique artistic sensitivity to the world around him. His photographs are elegant, complex and re ned.
Espinosa began his professional photography career in New York working as a fashion photographer for international modelling agencies such as Ford Models, Elite, IMG and Next. He has taught illumination techniques at photography workshops hosted by the International Center of Photography in New York and the gallery Pobre Diablo in Quito, Ecuador. His work has been exhibited in Australia, Korea, Qatar, Ecuador and New York. He has also published several books, including Afrodisiaco, Dubrovnik (a travel- ogue), Split (a travelogue) and Galapagos Surreal
For ‘Dream Lights of the City’, Espinosa has used experimental infra-red photography techniques to cap- ture hauntingly beautiful aerial cityscapes. Both deeply tender and darkly menacing, familiar and unreal these images capture a uniquely powerful and unsettling new dream of New York City.
