I’m so thrilled to have finally met my neighbors of 20+ years, Marc LaFia and Irena Rogovsky, when I photographed them a few weeks ago for a personal project I’m working on. I’ve seen him out and about, maybe even chatted with once or twice, for years, but we had never actually met.
Marc is a wildly creative, energetic, and prolific artist living around the corner from me in Park Slope Brooklyn. they bought this landmark brownstone off of craigslist 20 years ago. They are only the second owners. The people that were living there when they bought it were descendants of the family that built it in the 1800s. It still had dirt floors, and the walls were crumbling.
We started the day with a full tour of the house, talking a bit about the history of the actual house, and the history of Marc and Irena painstakingly renovating it and raising their two dynamic, creative children in the house (when they weren’t showing them 35+ countries around the world).
Every single inch of the house is filled with art, photos of the children, books that Marc has created, and so many lovely details of a full, rich life.
He and his wife so generously allowed me into their home for endless hours and gave me absolute freedom to photograph anything and everything. And then we ended the day with their portrait, which took about 10 minutes because they are two of the most interesting, relaxed and present people I’ve ever photographed.
I did an extensive interview with Marc and several more photos and I hope to compile all of it into a more cohesive story, but for today, I just want to share what there is so far because I’m so grateful for the day I got to spend with them.
