Harlem River Houses is one of my favorite photography projects from 2025. I first visited the project years before its renovation, already aware of its significance in the history of affordable housing, feeling the possibilities of its design. But the intervening years were not as kind as they could have been.
Through the collaboration of a stellar team, that potential has been fully expressed, brought back into good repair and enhanced in significant ways. This complex can once again be one of the best examples of the potential of thoughtfully designed affordable housing.
