We donā€™t just show up to a beach with a woman standing there with a camera feeling confident to be photographed. Thatā€™s not how humans work.

We get in our heads.
We want everything to be perfect.
We feel shy. We feel private.

There is always a natural warm-up period.

This session was the sweetest example of that with the kids. At first they needed cuddles from mom and dad. Everyone quietly watched what I was doing, slowly figuring out what was expected of them.

And then the moment always comes when they realizeā€¦

Iā€™m not asking them to perform.

Iā€™m just asking them to play.

But to cuddle.
To explore.
To be themselves.

What began with quiet, tender cuddles and soft whispers slowly turned into seashell hunting, crab discoveries, dancing, running, and piggyback rides.

And moments like this are why I love what I do so much.

Later today Iā€™ll be starting the year with a family of three session for a couple whose engagement I photographed on these very same sands many moons agoā€¦ Cape May beach.

Tell me something more full circle than that.

My career is so beyond special. šŸ„¹
