Several albumen prints by noted Scottish photographer James Valentine (1815-1879) including images of Tintern Abbey, Fountains Abbey, and Kenilworth Castle. Introduced in 1847, the albumen print process was the first commercially viable method of creating a paper print from a photographic negative.

Two shots of a homemade 5x7 camera I built a few years ago using parts from an old wooden view camera, an anatomical grip from a 4x5 Linhof, and a super wide finder supplied by the late Peter Gowland of Gowlandflex fame. The lens is a 90mm Grandagon which actually covers 5x7, producing a super-wide angle image. On a 35mm camera it would be the equivalent of using a 16mm lens. It's a fixed focus camera optimized for a subject 10 feet away but at smaller f stops it can pull in everything to infinity. With 5x7 film at $2.50 a sheet, I've pretty much quit bracketing! It works great handheld.

A few silver print images made this past summer using my modified 3x4 Graflex which I've described in another post. When used at wider f stops, the camera produces extremely shallow depth of field, a thin slice of the scene being rendered sharply while the rest is a beautiful blur. I love photographing with this camera!

Three photos of my new Frankencamera. A 1930 3x4 Graflex camera modified to use modern 4x5 film using a 3D-printed adapter from Graflex wizard Graham Burnett. On the front is a very fast (and heavy!) 200mm f.2.9 Pentec lens used by the RAF for aerial reconnaissance during WWII.

The beautiful 1932 Pulaski Skyway spans a little over three miles from my hometown of Jersey City to Newark, New Jersey. I traveled it with my parents when I was four years old. To a little boy, being up 135 feet above the ground made it seem like the car was flying! Sixty five years later, I still love its girders and geometry. There are more Skyway images on my website.
