Rest in peace Jesse Jackson šŸŒˆ Another era - at a 1992 Summerstage tribute to Woody Guthrie. It was my early days taking pics in NYC. Someone invited me to the gig & I showed up without credentials (no professional experience yet). Even so nobody stopped me walking on stage. Hard to imagine that now. 10 years later I photographed him for Time & by then all that had changed.

Bonnie Eckenbeck Cobb Sept. 1934 - Aug. 2025

The unsinkable Bonnie Cobb aboard the SS Ǝle de France in about 1956, fresh out of college & off to adventures.

From the get go she adored her son-in-law Morgan.

At an art colony in California.

Mom was known for her imaginative charity party decorations (& many other creative endeavors). Growing up our driveway was painted like Monetā€™s cathedral for a year, the paint from a gigantic scrim she made having leaked through the thin fabric.

A true cook, her kitchen was a practical work space, not some pristine showpiece. Behind her (mostly out of frame) is the 8-burner commercial stovetop and oven with grill she bought in 1978.

Shortly before her 90th birthday with her beloved grandson Allen.

My world has lost some of its shine without you, mom. Iā€™ll carry on as youā€™ve always prepared us to do, but Iā€™ll miss your curiosity for the world around you, for young people who bring new ideas and freshness to life, and for art. Always for art.

Recently on the heels of the Frankfurt book fair, we went to Berlin. The Staatliche museumā€™s Frans Hals show is a must. When you look closely at his brush strokes you see how very modern he was. Berlin is huge - almost 350 square miles. Coming from NYC where we live cheek by jowl it feels like a luxury for a museum to have large areas unused. Since my first trip to Berlin, Iā€™ve been fascinated by these steampunk above-ground water pipes. Last pics are from the Topography of Terror which is a gut punch. I donā€™t think I have anything new to add about this topic. I spent most of my time studying Hitlerā€™s rise to power - especially chilling right now.
