The church gave me a stately stone arch. Chris gave me a 👍. Kirsten’s reaction gave me the photograph.

These two took timeless elegance to the next level and added a sprinkle of playfulness. Their wedding had style without stiffness and genuine emotion that steered my lens toward each moment. So grateful to have shared these memories!

Camera-shy? Good. You’ll love what we create together.

Some of my favorite quotes from clients during a planning meeting are:
“I’m not photogenic.” “I don’t like being the center of attention.” “We never take good photos together.” “I feel awkward in front of a camera.”

By the end of a portrait session, those same couples say: “That was a lot more fun than I thought it would be!”

Andrea and Alex were very open with me about their discomfort at the start. But we had such a blast during their portrait session. And after their wedding, they wrote to me:

“We are so happy with our photos and our family members are too. You made everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera and the whole day SO much more stress-free. Thank you again, we will cherish our photos forever!”

You don’t have to be photogenic. You just need a photographer who listens and understands you. I promise to make you feel as at ease in front of the camera as you feel with each other.

They didn’t do every wedding thing. They did everything that mattered to them.

Andrew and Mo skipped the wedding party and the obligatory catalog of shoes, ties and accessories. Instead, they exchanged bracelets at their first look. Their dads helped them get ready. Close friends signed their ketubah. Their immediate families filled the front row. And at the end of their ceremony, they broke two glasses together.

Then came the tequila shots, the hora, four parent speeches, espresso martinis … and a few stolen minutes on the roof with sparklers.

Polished, personal and entirely their own.

That’s always the goal: not to photograph what a wedding is supposed to be, but to photograph who these two people actually are.

They say rain on your wedding day is bad luck. I say it’s an invitation!

Met with the right mindset (and a little creative courage), rain becomes another opportunity for telling your story.

Some of my favorite portraits have happened in the middle of a downpour…two people laughing and leaning in closer, completely unbothered. Because the focus was never the forecast. It was the love.

And I’ve had future couples see photos like these and tell me, “I kind of hope it rains on our wedding day.”

Remember: the weather doesn’t predict your happiness. You do! So if the sky opens up, don’t panic. We’ll still capture the magic together.

Some people light up when the spotlight finds them. These two brought their own spotlight. And I was so lucky to have been a part of their joy!

Salisha and Andrew smile with their whole bodies. On an ordinary day, being around that much warmth is infectious. On their wedding day, their joy nearly outgrew the walls of Tribeca Rooftop.

They know how to fill a room…singers, big entrances, dancing with suspiciously good technique.

But the best moments weren’t rehearsed: uncontrolled laughter, unapologetic tears, and that unperformed kind of happiness that makes everyone nearby feel a little more alive.

Before I was a photographer, I was a lowly college freshman who somehow snuck into a senior writing seminar.

One day the professor told a story about a student complaining about a bad grade.

“Your sentences are interminable,” he said.

She replied, “But Faulkner wrote long sentences.”

“Yes,” he said. “Because Faulkner was a genius. Until you’re Faulkner, just write good English. Let that be your trick.”

I’ve thought about that lesson for years.

Photography is full of techniques that can become the point instead of serving the point. Motion blur. Tilt-shift. Off-camera flash. Ultra-wide lenses. Shallow depth of field. They’re all fun. None of them matter on their own.

The only question worth asking is whether they make the photograph better.

Good photographs first. Techniques second.

That’s the trick.

I’ve asked many couples which photos mattered most to them 10 or more years later, and while I not surprised that most of these photos were moments with loved ones, what did surprise me is that when they *did* select portraits of themselves, it almost never was the one where they looked the most stunning; it was the ones where they were having the most fun together.

That was easy for them.

The Hotel Chelsea has no shortage of history, beauty, and New York character, but what I loved most here was not just the setting. It was the way these two looked at each other, laughed with each other, and seemed fully inside the joy of the day. The kind of portraits (in a seven-minute-total session) that don’t just show what you looked like, but bring back how it felt.
