We have this lovely gray catbird who was just done bathing he looks so adorable but look at his neck that kind of looks scary lol anyways enough of me yapping

A small fun fact - Undertail Coverts: Lighter, buffy, or pale reddish-brown feathers under the base of the tail rather than the distinct rusty-chestnut color seen on mature adults.

What we have here is a Nessus sphinx this is the one weird looking moth look at him how do you have a body of a shrimp, fly like a bird, yellow strips like a bee, get nectar like a pollinator. God had fun when he was making this one here.

A fun fact about them - Hummingbird Imposter: They hover in place with rapid wingbeats to drink nectar from tubular flowers, causing many people to mistake them for tiny hummingbirds or bees.

Also - Wasp Mimicry: The two bright yellow bands across their dark abdomen are believed to help them mimic stinging wasps while feeding.

Someone was sunbathing the other day.
We have this lovely common snapping turtle who loves being out in the sun just enjoying her time.

A small fun fact about them - No Hiding Place: Their bottom shell (plastron) is very small, meaning they cannot pull their head, legs, or tail inside for safety.

Ladies and gentlemen what we have is the wait finally being over ruby throated hummingbirds are back at New York Botanical Garden

Almost 1 year since they’ve been around.

These little guys are possibly juveniles because they’re extremely small but I am so happy to finally bring back to you guys what was one of my biggest obstacles in learning how to be more patient with them.

Enough of me yapping here is a small fun fact - White Throats: Juvenile ruby-throated hummingbirds of both sexes lack the bright ruby-red throat patch of adult males, featuring a plain or lightly streaked white throat instead.

What we have is this grey hairstreak butterfly I found this guy so fascinating seeing the orange ( what I thought was red ) on his back then I had seen what it looked like he had two heads I was confused.

Which that brings me to the small fun fact - False Antennae: They have thin, thread-like tail extensions on their lower hindwings that resemble antennae.

Well in the midst of me trying to capture the Japanese beetle 🪲 climbing the flower I didn’t notice anything else at the moment not until I got home and pulled up the photos. I spotted one little guy but there is one more do you see them?

A small fun fact about these Japanese beetle 🪲 - Geranium Paralysis: White geranium petals paralyze the beetles for up to 24 hours. This leaves them helpless, though it does not kill them.

What we have Carolina praying mantis that I seeing at the New York Botanical Garden while I was walking around. I watched this little guy for 1 hour to see if he’ll grab his food or something no he didn’t do anything just attack everything enough of me yapping.

A small fun fact about them - Egg cases: Females lay eggs in a hardened, foamy structure called an ootheca attached to twigs or bark.

What we have is a differential grasshopper that someone had showed me at the garden. I was so happy to finally see one of these little guys. I hope I get a chance to find another one if he doesn’t camouflage himself perfectly.

A small fun fact about them - Color Morphs: While typically olive green, brownish-green, or yellow, some populations are polymorphic and can display striking bright yellow or entirely black pigmentation.
