Glasses on, arms crossed, big grin. Derrick did not need much directing.

Some people worry a headshot will sand off the things that make them recognizable. The beard, the glasses, the ink on his forearm, that stuff is the point. It is what people remember, and it is what makes a stranger feel like they have already met you.

Against a plain dark backdrop there is nowhere for the eye to go except the face. That is exactly where it should land.

Seven faces from last week, and not one of them walked in on the same day.

Each of these was its own session, its own person, its own reason for needing a photo that actually looks like them. A broad grin in a black shirt. Glasses done right instead of glared out. A light blazer against a dark backdrop. A white patterned shirt with no suit in sight.

Put side by side, that is the part I love about this work. There is no single look that counts as professional. There is just the version that feels true when someone meets you online for the first time.

If yours still feels like a stranger, we can fix that in one session.

Audrey's session had a point where the posing stopped and she just settled in. This is the frame that came right after.

The cream knit, the dark teal behind her, nothing loud anywhere in the photo. What carries it is how at ease she looks, like the camera caught her mid-conversation instead of mid-pose.

That is the version of you people should meet first online. Not stiff, not trying too hard. Just you, comfortable and clear.

Some headshots try to look important. Kyle Bellinger's just looks like a man who enjoys his life, and that is exactly why it works.

The black shirt keeps everything simple. No suit, no tie, nothing competing for attention. Then the smile does the heavy lifting: wide, real, the kind you cannot fake for a camera. Against that dark backdrop, his face is the brightest thing in the frame, which is the whole point of a headshot.

People decide how they feel about you before they read a single word of your profile. A photo like this makes that decision easy. Warm first, credible right behind it.

If your current headshot has you looking like you are bracing for bad news, it might be time for one that looks like you on a good day instead.

Some people walk into a headshot session determined to look serious. Vas did the opposite, and it is exactly why his photo works.

That is a real smile, not the one people paste on when a camera points at them. Put it next to the navy blazer and what you get is the combination every professional is quietly aiming for: clearly capable, obviously easy to talk to.

People hire who they feel they already know a little. A photo like this does that introduction before the first meeting ever happens.

Turtle chin, then cross your arms. This is Vogue magazine right now.

That's the kind of direction you hear in my sessions. A small cue on the chin and the arms, and the whole photo changes. Most people have never been coached through a headshot before, so I talk you through every step until it feels natural.

I'm Jamison, and at Next Level Headshots I'll guide you the whole way so you can just relax and be yourself.

People only ever see the last frame of a headshot session. The finished portrait, clean backdrop, done.

This is what it looks like from my side of the camera. The laptop is tethered so we review every shot together as we go, nothing is guesswork, and if a collar is off or an expression is not landing, we see it and fix it in the moment. That wave in the back is Jeremiah mid-session, which tells you most of what you need to know about how these shoots actually feel. Relaxed people photograph better. Every time.

The portrait at the end of this set took about twenty frames of small adjustments to earn. That is the part nobody sees, and it is most of the job.

Early in your career, your headshot does a job your resume cannot. It tells people how to picture you before you have the title to do it for you.

Jeremiah kept his simple on purpose: black suit, black shirt, clean white backdrop, nothing competing with his face. What you get from it is composure. He does not look like he is trying to seem older or more important than he is. He looks settled, prepared, and easy to take seriously, which is a much stronger place to negotiate from.

People decide how to treat you in the first few seconds of seeing you. A photo like this makes sure that decision starts in your favor.

"Sorry, come back now. Yep, right there."

That's me nudging her head a half inch, and she laughed. That laugh is the whole point of a good headshot session. Tiny adjustments, a lot of encouragement, and a real smile shows up on its own.

Then I brought her around to the monitor to see the shots. She was happy, I was happy, and that's my favorite part of every session.

I'm Jamison, and at Next Level Headshots my job is to make you feel at ease so the photo looks like the best day version of you.
