This afternoon Debbie and I saw another Summer Tanager at our backyard water fountain. I decided to try and photograph him, so I setup out in the 100 degree heat in hopes that he would return for more water. After 45 minutes, he was a no show, but I did get a few photos.

I finally got the bird photos that I have been after for some time.

I had sat down on our back patio after we saw a juvenile Summer Tanager in our backyard. I was hoping to get a photo of him, but he flew off and did not return. I had given up and came back in the house. Debbie told me that I should keep trying to get a photo, so I went back outside.

To my great surprise, a male and female Painted Bunting flew up and landed on our water fountain that is by our back picture window. Debbie saw it from inside the house and was desperately hoping that I was photographing the pair.
When they flew off, she immediately called me and asked if I had photographed the pair of Painted Buntings, as she had never seen the two together. I said "What Painted Buntings" and she almost through a fit. She asked me how could I have missed them. I told her that I was looking at the feeder in the yard, hoping the juvinial Summer Tanager would return. She was almost about to get upset with me when I finally stopped kidding her and told her that yes, I saw them and took some photos.

The male is more in focus because he was the one that I was after. I had taken many photos of the female, but the elusive male just would not come up. When he did, I was lucky there this time!

This seems to fit me perfectly!

A Day in the Life of one of our many backyard bird feeders.
American Goldfinches are plentiful, Redbirds, House Finches, Titmouse, Inca Doves feeding below the feeder and to my surprise a Mockingbird showed up to feed on a nut and fruit feeder next to this feeder.

An early morning trip to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge today. I left home at around 4:30AM and arrived at the refuge at around 6:25AM.

The refuge opened at 6:45AM and I was on the hunt for birds.
I ended up walking about 3.5 miles of trails. These trails take you down to the San Antonio Bay shoreline where I hoped to find many varieties of birds. It was a cool 53 degrees, but with light winds it was a great day accept for the fact there were very few birds to photograph. The brush and the trail distance from the actual water was also not a help. Even though my camera lens was rated at around 670mm, I was still too far from the few birds I saw.
I did end up with some bird photos and below are some of them.

Here are some bird photos that I took this afternoon.

I was sitting on the ground, about 12 feet away from where I had placed seeds and dried meal worms.

I was covered with a camouflage drape and was pointing my lens at where I was hoping I would attract birds.

With the my lens being equivalent 672mm in focal length, when the birds did land, they seemed to be right on top of me!

The things a wildlife photographer will do to get the shot!

Some days, all you are able to find are Redbirds! Please take the time to zoom in on these photos to see the details.
