Trench Photos

Trench Photos Through my lens, the world as I see it since 2012. I live in Norman, Oklahoma, USA. Wow! Hence the name. I digitally embed Copywrite, FYI.

I started the project out of love and as a means to improve my photography; that was almost 10 years ago. The vast majority of the photos I present will be set in or near my hometown of Norman. I do travel though and won't stop taking pictures because I'm out of town. The camera: Pentax K1 mostly, although I toss in film shots now and again

e it here, I apologize. Sometimes I screw things up too much for me to save images, and I'm becoming much more choosy as time goes on.

Photo bombers used to annoy me from a pretentious, self aggrandizing, I'm-a-street-photographer-and-only-shoot-genuine-candids perspective.

I've since mellowed out, taken myself down several pegs, and these days I don't mind it at all. Which is good, because it happens almost every time I'm out with my camera. They all get a thumbs-up from me now, and who knows? Maybe I'll end up with a series at Main Site Gallery some day. (Or at the very least a zine.)

I was fortunate enough have the opportunity to visit Yayoi Kusama's outdoor pumpkin when I was in Japan in 2018. This was the original one that got washed out to sea 3 years later during a typhoon.

Her team created a newer, stronger one following this one's demise and its descendent now occupies its rightful spot on the pier by the sea.

(These are all on film.)

RIP Yayoi Kusama.

In the end, it's just a water tower, and one that's been out of commission for a long time. That being said, it's always been part of the fabric of campus, even in its dilapidated state. (I don't know about you, but I find old water towers, not charming per se, but of a certain pleasing aesthetic.)

All good things must come to an end. The process of branding it for a new life began yesterday. So long to the old, vintage attire.

I've seen a lot of churches over the years and Matthias Church in Budapest is by far one of the most memorable. Every inch of it was covered in simple decor. Instead of feeling busy or overwhelming, though, it was lovely and inviting. The color palette had a lot to do with that. We were even treated to an organ concert while inside.

My daughter was communicating with friends and sending photos (side note: it was a bit irritating that our wifi connection was better there than at our flat) and one of them said: "Wow. You can text Jesus from that church."
