Business owners rarely get the chance to stop and look back at what they've built.

Most days are spent putting out fires, meeting deadlines, networking, writing proposals, and thinking about what's next. It's easy to forget how far you've come when you're always focused on the next step.

Wednesday gave us one of those rare moments to pause.

We were honored to be recognized as the Small Business of the Year by the Thurston Economic Development Council. Looking around the room, we saw so many people we've worked with, collaborated with, or had the privilege of telling their stories over the years. It reminded us that no business is built alone.

For a couple of hours, the hustle slowed down. We took a deep breath, celebrated the moment, and simply enjoyed it.

The helicopter-shaped award felt like the perfect symbol. Sometimes, you have to lift off for a moment to see the bigger picture, recognize how much ground you've covered, and appreciate how much your community has helped you along the way.

To everyone who has trusted MediaRoom with your stories, hired us, partnered with us, or cheered us on: thank you. This recognition belongs to all of us, and it gives us even more motivation for the stories still waiting to be told.

A big thank you to the Thurston Economic Development Council for putting together this celebration of our local business community.

We're especially looking forward to connecting with so many people who have supported us throughout the years. When we started as a small boutique media company, we never imagined how far the journey would take us. Every client, collaborator, partner, mentor, and friend has been part of that story.

It's always inspiring to be in a room full of people building, creating, and investing in our community. Looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and celebrating together.

A few weeks ago, the Thurston County Chamber invited MediaRoom back to produce the winner videos for the 2026 Thurston Green Business Awards.

Projects like this are exactly why we started MediaRoom. Documentary-style storytelling allows us to go beyond polished talking points and capture the people, values, and purpose behind an organization’s work. Spending time with each of these businesses and organizations was both fun and genuinely educational. We are always inspired by the many ways local organizations are making sustainability part of their everyday operations.

P.S. It was also nice to spot MediaRoom featured in the latest issue of the Chamber’s Voice Magazine. Seeing our new ad in print was a great reminder of how far this little documentary company has come.

Had a really good time being part of this convo around media and film careers. 🎬

Misa shared a bit about his path, how he went from figuring things out, taking on different gigs, learning on the fly, to building a career that eventually led him to start his own production company. Not a straight line at all… and that was kind of the point.

We kept it real too, the hustle, the random opportunities, the moments where you’re like “is this even working?”, but also how powerful storytelling can be when you actually listen and connect with people.

Big thanks mto Thurston County Chamber for the invite and to everyone who pulled up with great questions and energy. Always happy to keep these conversations going.
