I have a well-stocked display at Stage on Main in Orange, MA right now. Check it out if you haven't been before! They have some delightful art from local folks! It's just a quick detour off of route 2!

Great Blue Heron in watercolor. Continuing with the heron theme here. The Great Blue is objectively a stunning bird (as are all the other herons obviously).

Herons, Egrets & Bitterns of the US & Canada. I've had a few requests for a heron print recently and more specifically a Great Blue. So... I drew a Great Blue and some friends.

It is hard to keep posting art as I watch our country descend into fascism. But it also feels necessary. Birds embody hope and tenacity. That's what we need to keep us going through these unfortunately precedented times. Soon enough we'll have a migrant or two showing up for an early spring. Maybe a woodcock or a Killdeer. And with them, some warmer weather to melt this ice...

Here's a Pine Siskin, a species I've heard nary a peep from this winter. However, I'm satisfied with the flock of at least eight Evening Grosbeaks that have been visiting my neighbors feeders since Christmas.

Labrador Duck and Great Auk, both recent extinctions from the mid to late 1800s that once may have been seen along the coast of Massachusetts. This is my sketch for for the prompt. I'm sure some others will have drawn these same birds since it's easy to feel wistful towards the absence of such striking birds from a familiar area and for the sad stories that accompany their demise.

Here's a fun little diversion from my usual stuff. I decided to do the day 22 prompt of Galah from . Sorta cheating to just do one, but I kinda wanted to see if I was up for a style that could lend itself to a quick sketch a day. I love seeing others interesting takes on the same subject as well. My takeaway is... maybe. We'll see. I might be up for a full month or more easily one of the shorter challenges.

I also generally only like to draw birds I've seen in person, but I'll take an exception every now and then. I did enjoy seeing a handful of Galahs on a trip to Australia 12 years ago. When bright pink parrots are just strutting around on the ground in city parks it's not something you easily forget.

Swallows of the US & Canada. Here's a better view of this design I just finished for a new greeting card. The poll I did a while back was pretty decisive for having the species labeled on the back of the card instead of the front so I'll continue with that layout for my cards. I'm still holding onto a version with type on the front as a potential larger print.

I have a 1982 Field Guide to the Birds of Japan which contains an illustration by Shinji Takano that inspired me a few years ago. I loved the idea of swallows perched side by side on a wire as an identification resource. I was pretty happy to finally take the time to draw this one out.

Here's one final new art reveal before I leave for the Rio Grande Valley. I'm calling this one Boreal Beauties and I'll have it available as an 8x10 giclée print. It depicts flowering willow branches adorned with male and female pairs of three boreal-breeding warblers: Cape May, Bay-breasted, and Magnolia.
